Former Viking Cris Carter Hints at Draft Night Adrian Peterson Trade

By Lindsey Young

We don’t want to beat the Adrian Peterson situation to death, and there have certainly been plenty of headlines surrounding the running back and Minnesota’s desire—or lack thereof–to trade him. At this point, it seems that GM Rick Spielman does not plan to deal Adrian Peterson. But is it all a smoke screen from Slick Rick?

This morning, Cris Carter may have “let the beans out of the bag” in regards to Peterson and where he will play the 2015 season. The former Vikings wide receiver said the following:

[pull_quote_center]I’m under a gag order on the Adrian Peterson situation. But I believe something’s gonna happen. But I can’t talk about it.[/pull_quote_center]

If an AP trade does occur before the season, tonight is probably the only chance of that happening. And although lots of rumors have surfaced around the situation, Carter holds a bit more weight than your average Joe. KSTP’s Darren Wolfson posted the following via Twitter:

This just adds more excitement to NFL Draft night for Vikings fans! Don’t forget to follow all of the Vikings Territory coverage tonight.

  • Why keep AP is he doesn't want to be here?? I say he will be traded sometime today.

    • I agree - I would love to see his talent back on the field, but I'm worried that now his attitude will just be a cancer. I'm ready to see him traded and move on with the season.

  • So what's the latest that a deal could possibly happen? Like...5 minutes before the first pick? Or like...5 minutes before the Vikes or the potential other team picks?

  • That's a good question. I honestly am not positive on the answer ... I think it could happen right before one of the teams involved in a trade would pick. Things often happen super last minute on Draft night.

  • I don't think Carter has any credible information. Why would anyone in the Vikings front office tell Carter of any pending plans? He has no real connection to the current office, and he's a member of the media so there's no reason anyone would talk to him. And even if Warren is his source, what could Warren possibly know? He's a lawyer, not a scout or a coach or a GM assistant. Why would Warren know anything about a trade? And even if he did know anything about a trade he's a lawyer which means he knows what confidentiality means. Some have said Carter may know something from the other end of the trade, some think his source could be Larry Fitzgerald. Even so, why would Fitz know anything unless he was being traded? Do teams consult with their players regarding possible trades? I don't think so. I wouldn't put any stock in this.

  • I've been saying this for at least a month. I'm gonna say that buck draft Leonard Williams I don't think there is a qb worth a #1 pick the best offence is a great defense. Skoll Vikings drink from the skull cap of Rogers

  • I said it was Dogna trolling when this came out but they deleted my comment because I suggest CC keep his mouth shut. I for one am glad it will be AP vs Mckinnon carrying the football. Playoffs don't seem like a reach this year.
