Pros:
- Physical play style that can send a message to opponents in the secondary
- An “in-the-box” safety who is at his best when moving downhill
- Great football instincts – attacks and flows towards the ball
- Can get high-to-low and sideline-to-sideline quickly
- A wrap-up tackler who thrives in the run game with solid fundamentals
- Can line up in man coverage against tight ends and in the slot
- Follows the flow of passing plays and tracks the deep ball well in the middle of the field
- Physical nature transfers to the passing game as he times contact with his man wisely and looks to disrupt the catch with his body
- Smart player in coverage that, when at his best, can manipulate quarterbacks with his eyes

Cons:
- Naturally aggressive nature gets him into trouble, specifically in coverage situations after biting on play action
- Good but not great athlete; will have a very tough time against any non-tight end in man coverage
- Fluid to the ball for his bulky size but can’t be considered quick in zone coverage
- Average long speed and recovery speed who will be beaten by quicker receivers in the NFL
- Seems to trust his instincts too much and will guess wrong a handful of plays each game
- Not athletic enough to sit back in center field and run around
- Tight hips that has trouble opening up in coverage situations

Fit with the Vikings:
Collins’ aggressive style, specifically in the running game, would certainly add a fun element and another tool to Mike Zimmer’s exotic defense. However, with his limited abilities in coverage, Zimmer would likely use Collins as an “in-the-box” safety, similar to the way Kam Chancellor is used is Seattle. This could mean Harrison Smith would likely drop back and become more of a coverage safety. And while Smith certainly has the skill set, it would be a shame to have to limit him to just one roll as versatility is one of Smith’s best attributes. The fact remains, though: This defense is still in search of a safety to pair with Smith, and Collins will very likely be there for the taking at pick 11 if the front office is so inclined. Collins could immediately contribute in run defense, which the Vikings struggled mightily with last year. Draft Grade:
1st Round (15-25)
While he certainly isn’t a flawless prospect, Collins stands head and shoulders above his peers as the top safety in this draft class. Collins will likely be viewed by NFL teams similar to his former teammate, Ha-Ha Clinton Dix, who was drafted with the 21st pick in 2014 to the Green Bay Packers. That seems about right this year too as teams like the Chiefs, Eagles, and Steelers, all of which could use safety help, sit in that range. Collins should hear his name called somewhere from picks 15-25.
