A Non-Update Update To My Mock Draft

By Adam Warwas

I have updated my 2012 NFL Mock Draft.

I have not, however, changed my pick for the Vikings at #23.  I still have them selecting Tennessee wide out Cordarrelle Patterson for all of the same reasons I have already explained.

If you are interested in seeing how the rest of my first round shook out, then feel free to check it out right here.

  • I’m uncomfortable with this guy in the 1st. It was hard to see clearly, but it looked like he uses his body to catch too much. And, if he dances around like that in the NFL he’s not going to last even one complete season.

  • Not to bash your mock adam, but could you set it up like Brett does?
otherwise it's still early and there are lots of evalution going on. I hope we get Q. Patton or M. Wheaton who both showed great play in senior bowl pratices

    • Yes, I will move to the "grid" style that Brett uses once the Super Bowl is over (and the final order is set) for reasons that boil down to me being lazy. :)

  • I feel pretty good about C Patterson, Q Patton, J Hunter, Keenan Allen and D Hopkins.

My gut feeling is Miami will NOT resign Reggie Bush... WR Hartline will get a new deal... so I think Miami will fall in love a versatile playmaker like like Patterson who can lineup in the backfield and also as a returner.

Miami will select Patterson with the 12 pick if he looks good at the combine.

    • gotta agree 100 % with that. Patterson seems like just the kind of talent they would aquire to give Tannehill a better chance to shine. They said that they really liked what they got from him, but he needed more weapons. - They won't break the bank or anything in the neighbourhood for Bush, but offer him a lesser deal. Kind of take it or prove you can find something better.

  • I am not sure why Matt Barkley is getting beat up so much?? Over the last 2 years he has completed over 65% of his pass attempts, 75 tds to just 22 ints and has thrown for over 6800 yrds.

If guys like Brady Quinn, Jake Locker, Christian Ponder, Blaine Gabbert and Josh freeman can all be drafted in the first round... I don't see why Barkley should not be a first rounder either.

Barkley's career stats and resume are still very impressive for NFL west coast systems. Spielman drafted 2 guys from USC last year! That tells me he likes what he saw from that offensive system. Spielman might covet Matt Barkley with the #23 pick?

    • I really doubt he covet Matt Barkley. I wouldn't want vikings to spend a first round pick on a QB, cause that surely means Ponder is a flob, bust, waste of pick.. However, I do actually thing Ponder and Barkley are a lot a like. West coast, "system QB" with decent arm.. I wonder if Matt's accuracy is better than Ponder's, but as of right now Ponder has more experience in the pro and I doubt a switch would be succesfull. There are going to be more expectations in next season and if would be extremely hard for a rookie to forfill those expectations.

    • Yeah... I fully expect Barkley to go in the first (had him in top five last update) but without mocking trades, I'm just not sure where to squeeze him in. I hope the QB mess in this draft starts to become more clear to me before April, haha.

And, yes, it was tempting to give him to the Vikings at #23.

        • Good to see you back, coach :)

I have no ill will towards Ponder, and wish him all the success in the world... I just suspect that "wishing" might be a futile effort. Sorry.

          • Oh no, Adam, didn't mean disdain in the personal sense at all, just as a QB. Gotta admit I remain concerned as well. He has, by no means, arrived, and if he doesn't cut it, I see no plan B in our book. But I really think he will be just fine.

    • you're not settin the bar real high there with those names, carl, but it won't matter, cuz we won't take him. ponder gets another free pass this year, at least in the beginning

it's almost kind of pacifying, to not need to care about a qb for the vikes this year. feels like i'm a lotus-eater or sumpthin

  • Cordarelle Patterson I think will be taken by Miami at #12 another guy to get would be terrance Williams from baylor he has a great ability to go up and get the ball at its highest peak a valuable trait in a wr

  • Barkley would be interesting if he's still there at # 23, Alot has to do with who will or will not be on the board at that pick.
Barkley has a very accurate arm. That's a must in a west coast offense.
I wish Ponder would've either played alot better or alot worse so we would know if he's the future or not I'm still not sure.
One thing I do know is that we need a better backup at the very least.

  • It's a real hard draft to predict. Especially because of the need for QB's and that lack there of.
It's hard to believe Barkley could fall out of the first round. He still put up good numbers. He has a very accurate arm, which is a must for a west coast passing game.
I wish Ponder would've either been worse or better than he was. Then we'd know for sure if he's the long term future here. I hope he doesn't regress again.
One thing I do know is we need a real back-up QB. The playoff game proved that.
