Links Of The Week: First Of The Offseason

By Adam Warwas

Well, it has been a while since we have done our “links” segment, but we have some stories to direct you towards on this football-less Sunday.

  • Adrian Peterson isn’t the only Vikings to ever be named the NFL’s MVP.  Here is a look at the other two Vikings to win the honor.
  • It is no secret that Jerome Felton is someone we would all like to see sign a new contract in the very near future.  Here is why.
  • It seems to be a trending prediction to put Greg Jennings in purple next season.
  • Whether or not the Vikings have a sixth round pick this year, or not, has become somewhat of a mystery.
  • Another series of questions about Percy Harvin leaves us without any concrete answers.
  • Mike Singletary is still trying to find a way out of Minnesota.
  • Think the Vikings have a good shot at a 2013 Super Bowl?  Place your bet now.
  • “Sources” say that Percy Harvin was not placed on injured reserve because of injury, but because of his attitude, and that the team plans to move on.
  • Former Vikings great Matt Birk hasn’t yet decided if his career will end with Super Bowl win.
  • Minnesota and the Vikings are hoping to host the Super Bowl in 2018.
  • One of the best analytical sites on the internet gives us the Vikings top three needs.  I’d like to tell you there is a shocking surprise, but…
  • The Giants have cast off a few defenders already, and they might be a good fit in Minnesota.
  • A free agent wide receiver like Donald Jones makes plenty of sense for the receiver-needy Vikings.
  • A claim that local beat writers for the Vikings are too often being cheerleaders for the team, and for Christian Ponder.
  • The NFL Scouting Combine is fast approaching and here is a complete list of the 333 prospects that have been invited.
  • Now that Cris Carter is in Canton, which Vikings greats should we champion next?
  • And, here it is, your moment of Zen:

Adam Warwas (Founder) has been writing about the Vikings for a total of eight years. Five of those years have been here at Vikings Territory where he continues to surround himself with enough talented individuals that people keep coming back. As proud as he is of what Vikings Territory has become, his real treasures are in his home... a beautiful wife and three amazing children (and a dog named Percy).

  • I would also like to find the answer of the mystery of the 6th round pick(s). Seems that a lot of the different mock drafts do not know the answer either since some have the Vikes with either two 6th rounders, or one 6th rounder and two 7ths or no 6th rounders and two 7ths. Is there anyway we can get this figured out? Our 6th round draft choices int eh past seem to turn out fairly well.

      • It's BS...Mick was one of the best centers ever, it's a travesty. Jim Marshall too! It took them like 16-17 years to put in Paul Krause? Yeah...he is only the all time int. leader!

  • well i think our speculations about percy harvin are being answered...theres reports coming out we are looking to trade him...

      • Sorry, I thought "one too many" declared which one. The last, of course.

But to be fair, variety is the goal of that whole post, so...

        • I assume you are talking about the video? Sorry, since it isn't actually a "link" I thought it was odd you were lamenting the old-timers not in the HoF link :)

          • You're very right there. You know, Adam, when that Dent kid from the Bears got in, I literally yelled, "Ahead of Marshall!!!?" Atrocious.

  • there are a lot of rumors out there about Percy, but not a done deal. Hopefully he will stay a vikings, because I sure doubt we can get more than a 2nd round for him.. He wants big money and not many teams are ready to deal out that, besides players with off the field problems usually goes for less than they deserve in a trade. Would be sad to only see us net a 2nd for him.
As for the 6th round missing draft picks.. Spielman said in an interview with KFAN that vikings will have their originial pick. I think vikings give up the 6th from titants and receive a 7th from arizona, so a swap of 6 and 7th round picks.

    • I'm guessing he was put on IR because a) he was injured and b) we didn't have a designation for return tag left and c) it really didn't look like we were gonna be playing post season football at that point. I could be wrong, but it's highly unlikely teams would agree on a trade prior to the season and execute it after.. But that's just me

Still think he ends up wearing different colors next season... Probably Welker's replacement (only a hell of a lot better)

  • @Malte- I agree, I have not seen reports that a deal is done. But my gut reaction to this hole thing is that back in the spring when Harvin asked to be traded out of the blue... leads me to think something must have been in the works then.

"I Think" the Vikings could have had a good offer from another team and Harvin was ready to go for it. However, "I think" the timing may not have been perfect for the teams involved. So the deal didn't happen at that time.

"I Think" the only way Spielman (or anyone with half a brain) puts Percy on injuried reserve 4 weeks into a minor ankle injury - when we are still alive in the playoff race - is... Spielman may have "already" had his mind made up that Percy will not be back this year. So that leads me to believe a deal COULD already be in place for this offseason. I am only speculating!

  • gotta re-sign felton. jennings might work, could just 'debrief' him, but he'd need a really strong disinfecting and delousing first
