And We Have Interest In (Wait For It)… A Center

By Adam Warwas

As Vikings fans with access to a Twitter account blow up the internet with their, I’ll put this nicely, dissatisfaction with the front office we finally have report of them talking with a player.

You might want to sit down for this one.

Shawn Zobel reports that the Vikings, along with two AFC teams, are “talking to” Packers free agent center Scott Wells.

This is surprising news, especially considering the Vikings gave current starter John Sullivan a hefty contract extension at the end of 2011, but perhaps they envision one of the two starting at guard.

Wells is not exactly a spring chicken at age 31 and doesn’t play a position of real need, so this one is fascinating if true.

    • I know, right. Things are going so fast I haven't even had time to write my update on what Bernard Berrian had for breakfast...

  • Well that certainly doesn't fit what I thought was the plan. I'm having trouble coming up with a reason for the interest.

    • They must feel that one of them would play guard... and whichever one it was (Wells or Sully) would be a considerable upgrade over what they got. That's the only thing I can figure, but the news is a head scratcher, that's for sure.

  • This is a team that wants to get Younger???
    Doesn't make sense...
I still like to see someone step up and take Sully's place .

  • Geez I have already lost all confidence in Speilman. I used to think Childo was the problem with some personell problems but it's obvious Rick is an idiot.

      • I figured that would draw him out Adam. But signing Remi and Letroy for 3 million each is just plain dumb. Dont guys like Rick even watch the games? Both these stiffs are 3rd string DTs taking up 6 million in cap space.

        • I can understand the frustration here, but the Guion deal isn't too bad. The kid was raw when we drafted him, we knew that at the time, he's young and talented though and if he proves starter-capable then his contract might be a boon. Won't argue with you on Ayodele though, haha.

          • But 3 million for Guion? What's that about 1 million per tackle? 2 years ago he showed promise but last year he lost me.

          • I thought he showed far more promise than either Evans or Ayodele... which granted isn't saying much.

I smell a bet in the makings, Johnny :) I think Guion will pan out nicely.

          • You have a bet Adam. I'll bet he stays a big disappointment. Now we have to figure out how much you will owe me? lol!

          • I believe steaks and Colt .45's are customary in this neck of the woods, Johnny :)

Not sure what the bet would be though, because I am not willing to say he'll be a Pro Bowler or anything like that within three years... got anything in mind?

          • Well we could compare his stats to the average of all other guys in the NFL that play same position? I trust you wont pull a Freds on me and not pay up. And I'll amke anothr bet that Guion doesnt come close with his stats that would justify his salary.

  • I think this would be a good move, specially with sully being pushed back to guard and with our (hopefully unless we somehow miss our pick) new OT, our Oline will be impressive.
