The Holy Grail Scenarios for Vikings in the 2026 NFL Draft

The Minnesota Vikings own the 18th overall pick in April’s draft — less than eight weeks from now — and eight more picks after that. The club hopes to nail this draft after four years of suspect choices. And, as always, there are some dream scenarios for the Vikings — outcomes that the fan base would universally applaud.
Minnesota picks 18th, so the best-case outcomes involve malarkey above them.
A disclaimer: the following happenings probably won’t come to fruition; that’s why they’re called “Holy Grail” scenarios.
Dream Outcomes That Flip Minnesota’s Draft Night
Generally speaking, this Vikings draft is quite mysterious.

1. RB Jeremiyah Love Falls to No. 18
In late November, the Vikings had a 4-8 record after a lousy loss at the Seattle Seahawks, and fans began daydreaming about a Top 10 pick, which, in theory, could translate to a fancy new running back from Notre Dame named Jeremiah Love.
Then, Kevin O’Connell and friends won five straight games, finishing 2025 with a winning record — and the 18th overall pick. That’s well outside of the zone to draft Love.
But there’s a very small chance that general managers deprioritize tailbacks this year, and if so, Minnesota could draft Love at No. 18 and have this year’s version of Bijan Robinson or Ashton Jeanty.
The Vikings haven’t showcased a young, game-changing running back since the Dalvin Cook days — and those started nine years ago.
2. 17 Teams Pass on LB Sonny Styles
Styles took the NFL Combine by storm this week, making this one damn near laughable.
But at the end of the day, Styles is an off-ball linebacker, and in the off chance he slides down the draftboard, Minnesota would have no choice but to pick him. His measurables are that fantastic; he even made Calvin Johnson’s Combine stats look like child’s play.
Styles is a guy where general managers stop everything they’re doing and pick him — even if the team is fully stocked at ILB. He’ll be that good.
ESPN’s Jeff Legwold wrote about Styles on Thursday, “Ohio State linebacker Sonny Styles, a projected top-10 pick in this year’s NFL draft, had one of the best vertical jumps for a player at his position in more than two decades Thursday, the first night of on-field workouts at the NFL combine in Lucas Oil Stadium. Styles’s 43½-inch vertical jump was the highest by an off-ball linebacker at the combine since 2003 and the second highest by any linebacker in that span behind Cameron Wake’s 45½-inch jump in 2005.”
“At 6-foot-5, 244 pounds, Styles, rated No. 7 on ESPN insider Mel Kiper Jr.’s big board, also had a 4.46 clocking in the 40-yard dash to go with an 11-foot-2-inch broad jump and a standout performance in position drills. His Buckeyes teammate Arvell Reese, the No. 3 player on Kiper’s big board, also ran a 4.46 in the 40, tying them for the best times among all players who ran Thursday night.”
3. Like Kyle Hamilton in 2022, Teams Say ‘No’ to Caleb Downs
Downs will likely get picked in the Top 5, Full stop. But at this time four years ago, when the Vikings had just hired Kwesi Adofo-Mensah and Kevin O’Connell, there was “no way” that Kyle Hamilton from Notre Dame would slide out of the Top 10.

Then that happened, and the rest is [bad] history for Minnesota. It traded out of the pick necessary to land Hamilton, opting for a strange trade with the Detroit Lions that netted Lewis Cine, a draft bust, and connected the Lions with Jameson Williams, who has turned into a decent wide receiver.
If the Hamilton thing occurs again, the Vikings could “make it right” by taking Downs as a no-brainer.
4. The Joe Burrow Trade Happens
When Burrow sounded upset about his career and life in December, Vikings fans dreamt about a trade. It was never very realistic because the Bengals would need to absorb an unholy dead cap hit to get rid of one of the NFL’s best players — why do that in the first place? — but the theory was out there nevertheless.
Pretend for a moment the following scenario: in the next seven weeks, your phone buzzes, and the notification reads something like this: Joe Burrow has requested a trade from the Cincinnati Bengals.

Minnesota would be at the top of the list for would-be destinations.
Here, the Vikings sent their next three 1st-Round picks and change to Cincinnati for Burrow, while the Bengals could turn around and sign Tua Tagovailoa or Kyler Murray.
Burrow will turn 30 next season, so he’d have about a decade left to perhaps win his first Super Bowl and the Vikings’ first in 65 years of existence.
