Brian Flores Needs Line Replacements

The Minnesota Vikings spent a boatload of money on both sides of the line last offseason. They brought in more than one addition on both offense and defense to try to beef up their trenches. Unfortunately, at least on the defensive side, it didn’t work.
Both Javon Hargrave and Jonathan Allen have moved on. The Vikings informed each player that they would be cap casualties. Hargrave signed with the Green Bay Packers on the first day of free agency, and Allen joined the Cincinnati Bengals a day later.
The Vikings Still Have Work To Do Along the Defensive Front
Now that both players have left, the Vikings are staring at a sizable hole. They did agree to a new deal with breakout lineman Jalen Redmond, but he is just one person. Redmond will fill either Hargrave’s or Allen’s role, but he obviously can’t do both. That leaves just Levi Drake Rodriguez and Taki Taimani as alternative options.

The former was a 7th-round pick in 2024, while the latter was an undrafted acquisition. Both have spent two years in the NFL, but they have a combined 27 years of experience between them. Rodriguez started two games last year while playing in 16.
It wouldn’t be surprising to see one of them wind up as the starter for Brian Flores, but it would be a shock if they are each other’s only competition. There isn’t a track record to suggest either is ready to run with the role without another addition, and the interior depth needs to be present regardless.

Whether the Minnesota Vikings spend on another free agent addition or not remains to be seen. Apparently, the Allen deal with Cincinnati frees up more cap space so that they could go that route. It’s also possible they look to utilize one of their nine draft picks and the spot as well.
Flores has always been synonymous with creating havoc for opposing offenses. If he wants to keep that up, he’ll need to have a defensive line capable of getting to the quarterback and shutting down the running game.
