Vikings WR Signs with Broncos
Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Trent Sherfield made his stop in the Twin Cities a one-hit wonder this week, signing with the Denver Broncos in free agency.

FOX Sports Jordan Schultz tweeted Tuesday, “Sources: Free agent WR Trent Sherfield is signing with the Broncos on a 2-year, $8M deal.”
And that’s a wrap on Sherfield with the purple team, who signed with the Vikings about one year ago. He’ll join this Broncos receiving corps in 2025:
- Courtland Sutton
- Marvin Mims Jr.
- Devaughn Vele
- Troy Franklin
- A.T. Perry
- Michael Bandy
And that leaves the Vikings with this WR room:
- Justin Jefferson
- Jordan Addison
- Jalen Nailor
- Jeshaun Jones
- Lucky Jackson
- Thayer Thomas
Here’s Sherfield’s NFL resume to date:
- Arizona Cardinals (2018–2020)
- San Francisco 49ers (2021)
- Miami Dolphins (2022)
- Buffalo Bills (2023)
- Minnesota Vikings (2024)
- Denver Broncos (2025)
Sherfield has played in 112 career games, gaining 150 targets in seven years and accumulating 86 receptions for 1,013 yards and 6 touchdowns. With Josh Allen and friends in 2023, the 29-year-old was targeted just 22 times — akin to Johnny Mundt’s numbers with the 2023 Vikings.

He played 179 offensive snaps in 2024 with the Vikings, or 16% of the time. Sherfield was featured much more extensively on special teams with Matt Daniels’ group last season, and in all likelihood, he’ll do the same with the Broncos.
In Minnesota, Sherfield grabbed 8 receptions for 83 yards and a touchdown, firmly living in WR5 territory for most of the season.
So far in free agency, the Broncos have re-signed D.J. Jones (DT), Mitchell Fraboni (LS), and Jarrett Stidham (QB) while adding newcomers Talanoa Hufanga (S) and Dre Greenlaw (LB) — a San Francisco 49ers one-two punch.

The Vikings have added Ryan Kelly (C), Will Fries (G), Jonathan Allen (DT), Javon Hargrave (DT), and Isaiah Rodgers (CB). The club also re-signed Pro Bowl cornerback Byron Murphy Jr.
Denver’s offense ranked 16th leaguewide in 2024 per EPA/Play, a middle-of-the-road placement, led by rookie passer Bo Nix, who turned heads throughout his first season. Head coach Sean Payton, along with Sherfield in the WR room, will hope to nudge that offensive ranking closer to the Top 10.

The Broncos also employ former Vikings off-ball linebacker K.J. Cloyd, who re-upped with Denver on a future contracts at the start of the offseason.
Sherfield turned 29 last month.
