The Minnesota Vikings signed a man with the last name “Rodgers” on Monday — cornerback Isaiah Rodgers, not quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

The move was Minnesota’s first of free agency, at least for external newcomers, and Rodgers will be on tap to possibly start for the 2025 squad.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter tweeted Monday, “Former Eagles CB Isaiah Rodgers reached agreement on a 2-year $15 million contract with the Minnesota Vikings. The deal includes $8M fully guaranteed. The deal was negotiated by Bryan Gavin and Ed Wasielewski of EMG Sports.”

Rodgers will join this Vikings 2025 CB room:

  • Isaiah Rodgers
  • Mekhi Blackmon
  • Dwight McGlothern
  • NaJee Thompson
  • Reddy Steward
  • Kahlef Hailassie
  • Nahshon Wright
  • Ambry Thomas

Meanwhile, Vikings faithful wait to determine if incumbent CB1 Byron Murphy Jr. will return or if Minnesota will target another free agent like Charvarius Ward — or just wait until the 2025 NFL Draft.

Here’s Rodgers’ Pro Football Focus resume to date:

2024: 73.2
2023: n/a
2022: 82.1
2021: 70.7
2020: 85.6

The former 6th-Round pick from the 2020 NFL Draft missed all of the 2023 campaign due to a gambling violation. One season later, he won a Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Here’s Rodgers’ passer rating against since 2020:

2024: 82.1
2023: n/a
2022: 113.0
2021: 78.1
2020: 142.9

Rodgers has appeared in 60 career games while starting 13. He’s never really been trusted with CB1 or CB2 duty, though that could change in Minnesota, especially if no more CB transactions are on the way.

Minnesota might continue to explore the open market this week for a corner like the aforementioned Ward (San Francisco 49ers), Asante Samuel Jr. (Los Angeles Chargers), or Nate Hobbs (Las Vegas Raiders), to name a few examples. Otherwise, rookies like Jahdae Barron (Texas), Shavon Revel Jr. (East Carolina), and Benjamin Morrison (Notre Dame) could be draft options.

The Vikings’ defense ranked second leaguewide in 2024 per EPA/Play, a vast improvement from the 2022 and 2023 campaigns. Minnesota will also showcase coaching continuity in 2025, as defensive coordinator Brian Flores did not earn a head coaching job this cycle.

Rodgers to Vikings was the first free-agent domino this week, as verdicts are still pending on in-house players like Sam Darnold, Camryn Bynum, and the aforementioned Murphy Jr.

Rodgers turned 27 two months ago.
