5 Sleeper Free Agents for Vikings Free Agency

Free agency in the NFL begins in two days, with “legal tampering” kicking off on March 10th. That’s the day when players legally-but-unofficially can start chatting with teams about new deals.

5 Sleeper Free Agents for Vikings Free Agency

It’s a quirky title for a busy event. Minnesota has over 25 free agents on deck to hit the open market, though when all is said and done, about 30%-40% will return for 2025.

And based on the state of the open market, these are five sleeper free agents who could sign with the Vikings. They’re listed alphabetically.

“Sleeper” free agents can be considered players that no one is really talking about joining the purple team.

1. Diontae Johnson (WR)

This man played his way out of a fat contract in 2024 but still has the skillset to cook opposing defenses.

He’ll also be dirt cheap compared to other big-name wide receivers like Chris Godwin and Stefon Diggs.

Johnson is 28 and would be the perfect WR3 for the 2025 Vikings if he adapted to Minnesota’s culture.

2. Sebastian Joseph-Day (DT)

Sebastian Joseph-Day produced a Pro Football Focus grade over 70.0 in 2024, but that doesn’t really turn any heads, at least not from a national perspective.

He should be attainable for $4 million per season, significantly less than Milton Williams’ soon-to-be $20 million asking price.

Moreover, Joseph-Day was on the 2021 Los Angeles Rams team that won the Super Bowl — the one with Kevin O’Connell on the coaching staff.

3. Payton Turner (EDGE)

Turner hasn’t produced much through four seasons as a former 1st-Rounder with the New Orleans Saints.

As the saying goes, though, “You can’t have too many EDGE rushers.” The Vikings could add Turner in an OLB4 role and have him available in case injuries arise for Jonathan Greenard, Andrew Van Ginkel, or Dallas Turner.

Minnesota would showcase two Turners as EDGE rushers.

4. Jedrick Wills (OT)

Only the Vikings’ brass internally knows for sure if Christian Darrisaw will return for Week 1 of the 2025 season or if his comeback will bleed into the middle of the season like T.J. Hockenson last year.

Willis has not lived up to his 1st-Round draft stock from four years ago, but if Minnesota needs a short-term fix at OT, Wills can fill that role.

Think of him as “this year’s Cam Robinson.”

5. Zach Wilson (QB)

If Sam Darnold signs elsewhere and Daniel Jones follows suit, well, the Vikings would need a backup quarterback.

Based on Kevin O’Connell’s current reputation as a “quarterback whisperer,” it would make all the sense in the world for O’Connell to work his magic with Wilson, who has all the raw arm talent to succeed.

Minnesota will probably re-up with Jones, reducing the mystery here, but folks should monitor Wilson if everyone but J.J. McCarthy leaves.
