Draft Day Nears; Purple Speculation’s Already Here
Vikings Territory Breakdown
There’s little news coming out of TCO Performance Center front, as free agency has wound down and the powers that be for the Purple look ahead to the 2025 NFL Draft and pick No. 24 going to the Minnesota Vikings. But that doesn’t mean all is quiet on the Eagan front. Several of the Top 30 prospects in the upcoming draft have visited TCO in recent days and that goes a long way towards speculation on and ask questions about what the Vikes are planning for the biggest day of the offseason.
Will the Vikings, who have only four picks (plus a compensatory pick) in the draft stay put at 24 and select a player who can impact the 2025 season, or will they trade down, as been general manager Kwesi Adolfo-Mensah’s MO in the past, and acquire more picks to fill out the draft class.
These are the first questions, but certainly not the last. The Vikings have done plenty (and many of it very good) during free agency, which may allow them to eschew seeking out more picks and instead grab a starter with their first-round selection. But then again, the Vikings had the oldest roster in the league last year, so the need to replenish with younger players for the future is certain to be on the Kwesi’ and head coach Kevin O’Connell’s minds.
It may come down to draft day before we know the answer, as teams keep their cards close to the chest until they are on the clock and have to lay them on the table. That doesn’t mean we won’t speculate on the potential for either choice. That’s what the fellas at Vikings Territory Breakdown podcast—Joe Oberle, senior writer at vikingsterritory.com and purplePTSD.com and Mark Craig, NFL and Vikings writer for the Star Tribune and startribune.com—are here to do.
