This week — so six months later — charges were filed against the driver who allegedly killed Jackson. The legal process is underway.

The Athletic‘s Alec Lewis tweeted Thursday, “A Prince George’s County grand jury returned a 13-count indictment against Cori Clingman, the driver of one of the cars involved in the accident that killed Khyree Jackson, Isaiah Hazel and Anthony Lytton. The counts include vehicular manslaughter and DUI.”

WJLA’s Sana Azem wrote about Clingman’s indictment, “Cori Clingman, who was driving the silver Infinity, hit the Dodge that Jackson, Hazel and Lytton were in when attempting to change lanes, according to a preliminary police investigation. The Charger was forced off the right side of the road, where it hit multiple tree stumps before coming to a rest. Clingman, a 23-year-old from Upper Marlboro, then hit the Impala. The Cheverlot’s sole occupant was not injured. Clingman, and her two passengers, were also not injured in the crash.”

The Vikings paid tribute to Jackson all season, including wearing “KJ” patches on their uniforms and covering his funeral expenses last summer. The team also reportedly paid Jackson’s estate $830,000, his signing bonus.

General manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah and head coach Kevin O’Connell held a press conference following Jackson’s death at the start of training camp and began the customary event by paying homage to the fallen Viking.

O’Connell spoke first. “Throughout the draft process and then his early time being a Minnesota Viking, you felt a guy that had such a laser focus on what his mission, his plan was,” he said. “And it really showed up in the spring. He had a very good spring and was really looking to coming back to training camp and being well on his way on that path to having a big impact on our team for this year.”

Jackson’s jersey No. 31 was unused this season.

“Khyree brought a contagious energy to our facility and our team. His confidence and engaging personality immediately drew his teammates to him,” O’Connell issued a statement soon after Jackson’s death. “In our short time together, it was evident Khyree was going to develop into a tremendous professional football player, but what was more impressive was his desire to become the best person he could be for his family and those around him. I am at a loss for words. My heart goes out to Khyree’s family, friends, teammates and coaches.”

Jackson was 23 at the time of his death. Clingman is also 23, and her legal process should play out in the upcoming months.
