The early portions of the NFL season are ripe for overreaction.

Teams have outperformed expectations while others have given reason for alarm as they tumble down the standings. Still others have given us two completely different showings in their first two games, and it’s anybody’s guess what could happen in Week 3.

Now that Week 2 has wrapped up, here is a look at where the NFL standings are at.

AFC

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen has his eyes on his receiver before throwing the pass during first half action against the Baltimore Ravens at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park on Sept. 7, 2025.

AFC East

  1. Buffalo Bills (2-0)
  2. New England Patriots (1-1)
  3. New York Jets (0-2)
  4. Miami Dolphins (0-2)

Unless Drake Maye can lead a miracle season in New England, the Buffalo Bills seem destined to dominate the AFC East once again. The Patriots did get a win on the road in Miami this weekend, but that Dolphins team seems completely discombobulated, and their defense has been a disaster. After an impressive offensive showing in Week 1, the New York Jets fell flat on their faces against Buffalo this weekend too, so those hopes may have been short lived.

AFC North

  1. Cincinnati Bengals (2-0)
  2. Baltimore Ravens (1-1)
  3. Pittsburgh Steelers (1-1)
  4. Cleveland Browns (0-2)

Even when things are going right for the Cincinnati Bengals, something has to break the wrong way. After years of slow starts, the Bengals are finally 2-0 and have sole possession of the division lead, but it comes with the caveat of Joe Burrow being sidelined for months with turf toe. The Ravens continue to look unstoppable on offense, so we’ll see if Jake Browning can lead Cincinnati to enough wins and keep them close enough for when Burrow returns.

AFC South

  1. Indianapolis Colts (2-0)
  2. Jacksonville Jaguars (1-1)
  3. Houston Texans (0-2)
  4. Tennessee Titans (0-2)

Everyone found Daniel Jones leading the Indianapolis Colts to a Week 1 win to be a cool story, but now, we might have to start taking this Colts team seriously after another win and dominant offensive showing against a great Denver Broncos defense. Particularly with the Houston Texans getting off to an 0-2 start, and the constant uncertainty as to which Jacksonville Jaguars team we will get on a week-to-week basis, Indy looks like a potential playoff team.

AFC West

  1. Los Angeles Chargers (2-0)
  2. Las Vegas Raiders (1-1)
  3. Denver Broncos (1-1)
  4. Kansas City Chiefs (0-2)

It’s chaos in the Wild, Wild West. Who would have guessed the Kansas City Chiefs would be last in this division through two weeks, and it comes without an injury to Patrick Mahomes or Travis Kelce? The defending AFC champs just have not found a way to put things together offensively through two weeks while the Los Angeles Chargers look like they are on their way towards making a serious case for being contenders in the AFC.

NFC

NFC East

  1. Philadelphia Eagles (2-0)
  2. Washington Commanders (1-1)
  3. Dallas Cowboys (1-1)
  4. New York Giants (0-2)

The Philadelphia Eagles took sole possession of the NFC East lead after winning the rematch of Super Bowl LIX against the Kansas City Chiefs to move to 2-0 on the young season. Meanwhile, the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants gave us an early contender for Game of the Year as Dallas won a 40-37 overtime thriller. New York is in danger of digging a big hole if they cannot overcome the Chiefs in Week 3.

NFC North

  1. Green Bay Packers (2-0)
  2. Minnesota Vikings (1-1)
  3. Detroit Lions (1-1)
  4. Chicago Bears (0-2)

The Green Bay Packers have firmly asserted themselves as the No. 1 team in this division after coming away with a dominant win over the Washington Commanders on Thursday Night Football. Week 2 was also a nice bounce back week for the Detroit Lions as their offense ran completely free against the Bears, scoring 52 points. Meanwhile, the Minnesota Vikings are right in the middle with lots of uncertainty after a litany of injuries have struck early in the year.

NFC South

  1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-0)
  2. Atlanta Falcons (1-1)
  3. New Orleans Saints (0-2)
  4. Carolina Panthers (0-2)

As expected, the NFC South seems to still belong to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after jumping out to a 2-0 start following a last-second win over the Houston Texans on Monday night. It’s been a disappointing start for the Carolina Panthers, too. After garnering some momentum after a solid conclusion to 2024, Carolina has fallen to 0-2 to begin their season, joining the Saints at the bottom of the division.

NFC West

  1. San Francisco 49ers (2-0)
  2. Arizona Cardinals (2-0)
  3. Los Angeles Rams (2-0)
  4. Seattle Seahawks (1-1)

The NFC West has dominated the opposition so far this season with only one loss between the four teams, and that loss came when the Seattle Seahawks couldn’t overcome the San Francisco 49ers in Week 1. The Arizona Cardinals have been impressive with two clutch wins to begin the year, and the Rams put together an explosive offensive performance in Week 2 against the Tennessee Titans. Things could change quickly in this division, though, with Brock Purdy and George Kittle being injured for San Francisco.
