Vikings Invite Rookie Hot Shot to Minicamp

The Minnesota Vikings’ cornerback room might get a little deeper for 2025 and beyond.
Vikings Invite Rookie Hot Shot to Minicamp
The position remains a bit of a question mark as Minnesota nears summer operations, but with defensive coordinator Brian Flores in charge, most fans feel relatively content with the group.

And another rookie option could be on the way — undrafted Nebraska corner Tommi Hill.
Nebraska CB Tommi Hill on His Way to Vikings Rookie Minicamp
The Vikings have already onboarded about 20 undrafted free agents, in addition to five rookies from the 2025 NFL Draft. There might be room for more, too.
Nebraska Football‘s main social media account tweeted the following this week:
Therefore, if Hill plays his cards right, he could turn purple in no time and be attached to the Vikings’ roster for the long haul.
Entering last week’s draft, Hill could’ve been selected anywhere from Rounds 4 to 7, according to most credible draft analysts. But no general manager took a chance on the Cornhusker, leading to a rookie tryout in Minnesota.
Tommi Hill Scouting Report
Hill is 23 years old and 6’0 + 205 pounds. He has 4.55 speed and should’ve joined a team last week around Round 5.
NFL Draft Buzz‘s K.C. Martinez on Hill: “Tommi Hill presents an intriguing package for NFL teams looking for a developmental cornerback with upside. His ball skills and versatility will be highly valued, but concerns about top-end speed may limit his initial role. Hill projects best in a zone-heavy scheme where he can utilize his instincts and ball-hawking ability.”
“In the NFL, Hill could initially contribute as a rotational corner and special teams ace while he refines his technique and adjusts to the speed of the pro game. His experience on offense could make him a valuable asset in practice, giving scout teams a player who can emulate gadget plays and provide insights from both sides of the ball.”

Jacksonville Jaguars hybrid WR-CB Travis Hunter, the second overall pick in the draft, named Hill one of the toughest cornerbacks he faced in college — quite the endorsement.
Martinez added, “Long-term, if Hill can improve his man coverage skills and compensate for his average speed with superior technique and anticipation, he has the potential to develop into a solid CB2 or high-end nickel corner. His playmaking ability and football IQ suggest he could become a valuable member of an NFL secondary, particularly in a system that emphasizes zone coverage.”
Why Not Drafted?
Hill is recovering from plantar fasciitis, which evidently spooked NFL teams away from a late-round draft pick.
It’s really the only explanation for his undrafted status. Otherwise, the rookie has the size, physicality, and talent to be at least a late-rounder.

He’ll embark on the NFL with a chip on his shoulder — perhaps in Minnesota if rookie minicamp treats him kindly.
Huskers Media on Hill
HuskerCorner.com‘s Oliver Vandervoort sized up Hill’s undrafted mystery this week: “Defensive back Tommi Hill was at one point, Nebraska football’s best chance at a first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. Then he suffered a plantar fasciitis injury to his foot early in the year and never really recovered. And it appears he may still not be fully recovered, considering he was unable to work out either at the combine or Nebraska’s Pro Day.”
“There were still some who believed that an NFL Team might take a flyer on Hill simply because of the kind of lockdown corner he was before the injury. However, even after six Huskers signed UDFA deals, Hill remains the one who sticks out like a sore thumb.”

Vikings general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah has a rich recent history of plucking undrafted talent after the draft, and Hill could be the latest example.
Vandervoort concluded, “At this point, it appears that NFL teams want to see if the former Nebraska football star is healthy before they offer him any deal. At some point, Tommi Hill will indeed get himself back into playing shape and someone will luck out with quite the steal. But that he’s still out there is surprising, nonetheless.”
Trajectory with Vikings
Some insist that Hill has the juice to make the 53-man roster in September if he catches on this summer.
If so, he’d have to oust another UDFA from the mix, Dwight McGlothern, a rookie from 2024, and hope that Adofo-Mensah doesn’t sign any CB free agents, like Asante Samuel Jr. or Jack Jones.
Hill could also be a practice squad member.
Rookie minicamp is 10 days away.
