The Minnesota Vikings hired Kevin O’Connell and Kwesi Adofo-Mensah as the head coach and general manager, respectively, about four years ago, after the team’s gruesome loss on Thursday Night Football. An alarming number of fans have decided that neither is equipped for continued employment.

Following a two-game losing streak to the Super Bowl champions and Jim Harbaugh’s team, some Vikings fans soured on the current leadership.

In mass fashion, angry Vikings fans called for O’Connell and Adofo-Mensah to be fired on Thursday night, a handful of months after the team’s ownership group extended both men’s contracts.

They’ve seen enough.

Fans Tee Off on Kevin O’Connell

The cries for O’Connell’s job were loud among the panickiest of fans.

One fan tweeted, “Wilfs need to have a talk with the GM and Coach after this one. Unreal. You almost let a man die out there tonight. Should have put Brosmer in after the first play.”

“Fire Kevin O’Connell. Enough is enough. KOC is NOT a good head coach. His team is consistently underprepared for big games and primetime. He refuses to make changes or adapt unless forced. He sticks with bad coaches (OL). He will never win us a Super Bowl, guarantee it,” a different fan posted on X.

Ft. Myers Vikings Fan: “Bad NFL player and terrible coach! Very soft and fragile organization. If I screwed up this Bad at my day job, I would be fired! KOC is hot f—–g trash!!!”

Another man named John Frascella weighed in, “After what Kevin O’Connell did to Carson Wentz last night, I am SHOCKED he wasn’t fired already this morning… if it were Boxing they would have stopped the fight for Wentz in the second quarter, KOC let him suffer, and let rookie QB Brosmer rot on bench.”

And those are just a tiny sample.

Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, Too

O’Connell wasn’t alone. His boss drew even more ire.

To an audience of roughly 9,000 followers, Tanner Weber tweeted, “I want ya’ll to look at our roster right now (outside of Jordan Addison) and tell me where Kwesi has hit on draft picks in rounds 1-4 (days 1 & 2 of the draft) and tell me which ones are actually making a difference. I’ve never been more out on Kwesi Adofo-Mensah than I am right now. This entire roster is patched up with expensive free agents and trades because he does not have the ability to hit on draft picks.”

Skolney79: “I don’t believe JJ McCarthy is going to be worth all this. Ever. I don’t believe in Kwesi to build the roster anymore. I don’t believe in KOC anymore as a game coach. I think we are in the early days of a very long down period with this franchise.”

MNGreek, too: “Not only is Kwesi not fit to be a GM, but his draft team needs to go as well; the assistant GM is Ryan Grigson. If you don’t know that name, let me help you. He was the worst GM in the NFL from 2012 to 16 when he had Andrew Luck, and he’s the reason Luck retired.”

“He got hit so many times because he hardly ever drafted linemen—he couldn’t draft for shit. He signed Philip Dorsett instead of linemen, Nuff said. How this guy has a job and he’s with Kwesi says it all. You put him and Kwesi together, now you see why they can’t draft for shit. I dare anybody to debate this.”

All these comments are Twitter only. You can find more “fire Kwesi” rumpus here. Facebook is an even larger mess.

The Problem? It’s a Two-Game Losing Streak and Freshly Extended Contracts.

There’s a snag in the plan for those wishing termination on O’Connell and Adofo-Mensah: NFL owners don’t fire coaches and general managers after two losses, especially after the duo has produced the NFL’s fifth-best record in the last 3.5 seasons.

Owners — businessmen — don’t get to the top of the NFL perch by making kneejerk, panicky reactions like fans might unsheath on social media after midseason losses. Too, O’Connell and Adofo-Mensah’s contacts were just extended. Their extensions haven’t even kicked in yet.

NFL owners have patience and faith after two losses. Flamethrowers on social media haven’t developed those maturational traits.

Go-Time in Next 10 Games

On the other hand, if the Vikings were to utterly faceplant in the next 10 games — basically play like damn fools like they did on Thursday Night Football — the ownership would have no choice but to uproot the general manager or head coach or both.

On July 22, 2025, Minnesota Vikings general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah and head coach Kevin O’Connell spoke jointly at the team’s pre-training camp press conference. The duo discussed roster depth, offseason improvements, and expectations entering camp, projecting unified leadership as the franchise prepared for another demanding season in the NFC North. Therefore, to avoid any doomsday scenario of instability, the next 10 games are showtime for Minnesota. The grace period is gone. No one cares about injuries anymore; they’re so common that they’ve become woven into the fabric of 2025.

The Wilfs won’t fire Adofo-Mensah or O’Connell because fans got mad about a TNF loss, but their hand will be forced if nothing improves henceforth and the team finishes around 4-13 or so.

It’s time for O’Connell to respond on the field. That’s the only option.
