Vikings Beef Up Their Defense with 2 Signings on Wednesday

After the Minnesota Vikings placed WR Rondale Moore on injured reserve Tuesday and also waived LB Brian Asamoah as well as center Zeke Correll.
As a result, the Vikings had open space on their roster to make additional depth signings, and on Wednesday, the team announced two players have been added to the defensive side of the ball.
Vikings Sign Pair of Defenders

Those two players are OLB Cam Gill and LB Max Tooley, helping replace Asamoah in the linebacker room.
“The #Vikings have signed OLB Cam Gill and LB Max Tooley,” the team posted to X on Wednesday.
Gill, who played his collegiate ball at Wagner, spent the first few years of his NFL career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after signing as an undrafted free agent.
The pass rusher appeared in 40 games with the Buccaneers from 2020-2023, largely filling the role of a special teamer. Defensively, Gill totaled a single tackle for loss and 2.5 sacks.

In 2024, he split time with the Detroit Lions and Carolina Panthers, but his playing time came exclusively with the Panthers. Gill played 10 games for Carolina and set a new career-high in defensive snaps played, totaling 221 along with his usual contributions on special teams.
As for Tooley, this actually marks the beginning of the linebacker’s second stint in Minnesota after he originally signed to the team’s practice squad in September 2024.
Tooley played for BYU during his college days, playing in six seasons for the Cougars. He totaled 311 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, three sacks, eight passes defended, and seven interceptions (including two pick-sixes) throughout his collegiate career.
Following the 2024 NFL Draft, Tooley signed with the Houston Texans as an undrafted free agent. The linebacker is yet to make an appearance in an NFL game.

Ultimately, both players likely are simply training camp bodies for now with a chance to sign with the practice squad if defensive coordinator Brian Flores is impressed.
The NFL roster cutdown date is less than two weeks away as teams will trim their rosters from 90 players to 53 on Tuesday, August 26.
