Ty Chandler & 3 Other Forgotten Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings will embark on free agency in less than three weeks, showcasing about $63 million in available cash, their most cap space in years. Maybe eons.

Ty Chandler & 3 Other Forgotten Vikings

Minnesota finished 14-3 last season before evaporating in the playoffs, finishing the 2024 campaign in true one-and-done fashion, not unlike the 2022 season.

To put 2024 in the rearview, here are the Vikings’ forgotten players, ranked in ascending order (No. 1 = completely pushed to the back of the back).

4. Brandon Powell (WR)

Heading into the summer of 2024, many Vikings fans foresaw Powell earning the WR3 job over Jalen Nailor and Trent Sherfield.

He didn’t do that. Not even close.

Instead, he served as Minnesota’s primary punt returner, and that’s about it. Powell caught 7 passes for 71 yards, which is more like a WR6 statline, not WR3. His output tailed out from 324 receiving yards in 2023 to 71 in 2024.

3. Brian Asamoah (LB)

Minnesota chose Asamoah from Round 3 of the infamous 2022 NFL Draft, and fans thought highly of his potential. However, at every step of the way in the last three seasons, the Vikings end up starting somebody not named Asamoah when linebacker injuries emerge.

Like nearly every draftee from 2022, Asamoah hasn’t panned out.

He played a career-low 33 defensive snaps in 2024.

2. Ed Ingram (RG)

Minnesota benched Ingram for Dalton Risner midseason and never looked back. Ingram has played 48 games in purple, never turning the corner into an above-average lineman.

And with the offseason shifting toward interior offensive line improvement, Ingram’s 2024 campaign did him no favors. He could even be waived. That would save Minnesota over $3 million.

Ingram might be the most popular cut candidate among fans.

1. Ty Chandler (RB)

Ty Chandler finished the 2023 season as the Vikings RB1.

Ty Chandler began the 2024 season as the Vikings RB2.

Ty Chandler ended the 2024 season as the Vikings RB3.

Not a good arc. The man could be a roster-cut candidate in the summer if Minnesota selects a running back or two in the draft.
