Strange Tweet Links Vikings to 2 Popular QBs via Trade

New York Giants quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston may need new homes before next Tuesday, when the NFL puts a bow on all trades for the 2025 season. One site claims the Minnesota Vikings are sniffing around either man’s availability.
Generally speaking, the Minnesota Vikings are unlikely to trade for an extra quarterback this week or next, but one betting site claims otherwise.
Polymarket fired off the tweet this week, though there is no apparent substantiation behind it. Nevertheless, Wilson and Winston will be a part of the Vikings’ rumor mill for the next week or so.
Tweet Claims Vikings Are Taking a Look at Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston
It’s unclear if the information is rooted in reality.

Vikings + Russell Wilson or Jameis Winston?
Out of nowhere, Polymarket tweeted Tuesday, “The Vikings have reportedly reached out to the Giants on the availability Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston. They prefer Winston but the Giants have no plans to trade him currently.”
The site and X account do not have a track record of cashing in on credible rumors, butย Polymarketย itself is otherwise a legitimate sportsbook. Polymarket‘s social media account, in fact, often prefers to stir the pot while poking fun at teams and players, so it is unclear if the rumor is semi-realistic.
Still, the tweet was seen by approximately half a million people.
Polymarket as the Only Source
The problem with the newfound rumor is one just one thing: Polymarket delivered the tweet as fact โ and there’s just no other credible source to corroborate. No other reporters or websites can back up the claim that Minnesota has called about Wilson or Winston โ other than some authors who claim “this would be a good idea.”
There’s a chance the Polymarket tweeter saw an article from a person who thought Wilson to Minnesota was wise, grabbed the intel, and presented it as fact.
That happens. Sadly.
The Jaren Hall Evidence?
Meanwhile, the Giants have three quarterbacks: Jaxson Dart, Wilson, and Winston. It might be strange to add another, right? Most teams have three quarterbacks.

Well, New York auditioned former Vikings passer Jaren Hall this week, stoking the fire that Wilson or Winston, indeed, could be traded before next Tuesday. Why else would the Giants need a low-end passer like Hall in case of emergency if they had three semi-capable signal-callers in Dart, Wilson, and Winston?
It’s worth noting that Hall’s tryout has not yet been converted into a contract at the time of this article’s publication.
Vikings Sign John Wolford
If one needs more evidence against the Polymarket + Wilson + Winston rumor, well, Minnesota signed a different quarterback on Wednesday, a veteran named John Wolford.
Wolford partnered with Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell for a couple of seasons in Los Angeles when O’Connell served as the Rams’ offensive coordinator. Similar to the Dart-Wilson-Winston-Hall logic, Minnesota doesn’t really need four quarterbacks: J.J. McCarthy, Max Brosmer, John Wolford, and Russell Wilson.
Adding Wolford suggests that Minnesota is content with the youth movement at quarterback, mainly featuring McCarthy and Brosmer.
PPTSD on the Trade Rumors
Our Brevan Bane on the Polymarket tweet: “That’s exactly why on Tuesday, multiple rumors were thrown into the universe regarding these Vikings and a potential trade for a veteran to come in and provide some support for a quarterback room that doesn’t employ a signal caller with more than five career starts.”
“Akin to the other report we’ll cover in a bit, this one is yet to be confirmed by legitimate sources, but Polymarket isn’t just another publication that throws out random things hunting for interactions. It’s the biggest online prediction market in the world that probably has some decent eyes and ears around the major leagues. Wilson isn’t a truly awful signal caller, yet he doesn’t inspire too much confidence in any fan base among any fan base he’s played for in recent years.”
For curious minds, Wilson is 36 and Winston is 31.

“He currently resides as the QB2 in the Big Apple for the Giants behind rookie QB Jaxson Dart, and in front of QB3 Jameis Winston, whom the Vikings apparently prefer over Wilson per the Polymarket Football report. Wilson would surely be a polarizing figure in the Twin Cities, even though he likely wouldn’t see the field (of course, barring the doomsday scenario of another J.J. McCarthy injury),” Bane continued.
“In no way, shape or form, though, would he be nearly as polarizing as the other lead man that the Vikings are rumored to be taking a look at.”
The last time Minnesota swung a midseason deal for a quarterback, it worked out well for a few weeks: Joshua Dobbs.
