A Minnesota Vikings trade for New York Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner was never very realistic in the first place, and the All-Pro defender all but dismissed trade rumors on Wednesday.

Sauce Gardner Claps Back at Vikings Trade Rumors

Internet fodder bubbled to the surface this week, suggesting Minnesota could land Gardner via trade. Predictably, Vikings-themed voices ran with the theory, spitballing a trade involving wide receiver Jordan Addison and draft picks.

Gardner thought Vikings fans were kidding.

The phenom corner retweeted a SKOR North video clip on X, after that show afforded a whole segment to Gardner trade rumors. Gardner wrote, “i thought it was a joke this whole time, but y’all were serious all along huh😂.”

Here’s the tweet in the flesh:

It should be immediately noted that the rumors have not been vetted by any credible local or national reporter. However, like most rumors, the idea of Gardner in Minnesota has attracted Vikings fans’ attention because of his high profile. Fans would love the man in purple.

The Gardner trade rumors appeared to emerge from an account named “Playmaker Dave,” who boasts an impressive social media accuracy run, predicting events like Daniel Jones to the Vikings a few months ago, Davante Adams to the Los Angeles Rams, and Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders, among other fulfilled prophecies.

The account tweeted Tuesday, “SOURCE: Minnesota Vikings and New York Jets in discussions for blockbuster trade involving Sauce Gardner’ lots of movement in the last 24 hours and the cap situation makes it all work.'”

Last weekend, Gardner actually tweeted about the Vikings — but about the prospect of Aaron Rodgers joining the purple team. “If Aaron goes to the Vikings, he might be #1 in all QB stats,” Gardner posted to X.

In November, Gardner spoke admiringly about Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell. “He’s nice. That’s probably one of the only games this year I was like thinking, ‘Do I really want to gamble against him? Bro, he is probably one of the best OCs I’ve ever played against, like ever,” Gardner said on The Richard Sherman Podcast.

Like most NFL teams, Minnesota could use a shutdown cornerback, having failed to employ one since the Xavier Rhodes from the 2015 to 2017 era.

It’s just that Gardner probably isn’t an option if he’s poking fun at a network like SKOR North.

The Vikings re-signed Byron Murphy Jr., a cornerback, this week and could draft a corner in April.
