It might only be Week 9, but it felt like the Minnesota Vikings needed the upset win in Detroit to give the team the boost needed to keep the season alive. Led by a returning JJ McCarthy, the Vikings got the W in the Motor City.

VikingsTerritory looks at reactions from the Vikings orbit to the Vikings’ huge Week 9 win in Detroit against the Lions.

It wasn’t a huge day for Justin Jefferson, but he caught his second touchdown of the season. He passed teammate Adam Thielen to go third on the Vikings’ all-time receptions list.

Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell gave his assessment of his young QB’s performance while also expressing his love for the whole group, from players to staff. It was a big win for the HC, who had lost five in a row, too, before Dan Campbell’s team on Sunday.

The Vikings were huge underdogs going into this game, with few people giving them a chance to win. The team’s social media team made sure everyone knew it.

Vikings Players Post-Game Reactions

A short clip of McCarthy entering the changing room post-win, and the energy and belief restored to this team.

Vikings edge rusher Jonathan Greenard was straight to social media after the game finished with a simple one-letter message.

Cornerback Isaiah Rodgers also took to social media to celebrate the win.

There has been a lot said about McCarthy’s ankle injury and how long it took him to return to playing. The young QB was full of praise for how the organization handled him, and he was at 100% when he came back into the fold.

Despite his pride in his performance, McCarthy acknowledged he was far from perfect and will strive to improve. The attitude of a serial winner.

Reactions of Former Players

Seeing the reactions of former players on game day is always fun. Former Vikings wide receiver Jake Rees was bursting with pride after his team’s win in Detroit. As was former punter Greg Coleman.

Former Vikings quarterback Tommy Kramer has been a champion of the Vikings’ young QB and was quick to tell people why he is a McCarthy believer after this win.

Robert Smith enjoyed pointing out that it had been a great weekend for Minnesota football.

Finally, the Vikings mascot thanked Michigan and gave Vikings fans permission to be excited.

It was a great win for the Vikings; now they will have the chance to back it up on home soil against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 10.
