Last month, the Los Angeles Rams re-upped with linebacker Troy Reeder, who spent a couple of months in the Twin Cities during the summer of 2023.

The Los Angeles Rams enhanced their depth chart on Thursday, adding a former Vikings lineman.

And the Rams were at it again on Thursday, signing another former Minnesota Vikings player, offensive tackle David Quessenberry.

The 34-year-old now plays for Kevin O’Connell’s former team.

OT David Quessenberry to Rams

TheRams.com’s Stu Jackson wrote Thursday, “The Rams on Thursday signed offensive tackle David Quessenberry to a one-year deal. Quessenberry, 34, most recently played for the Vikings, where he played in 33 games (four starts) over the last two seasons.”

“Overall, he has started in 30 of 84 career games played through seven seasons, including stints with the Houston Texans (2017), Tennessee Titans (2018-21), Buffalo Bills (2022) and Minnesota Vikings (2023-24). The 6-foot-5, 310-pound offensive lineman originally entered the NFL as a sixth-round draft pick by the Texans out of San Jose State in 2013.”

Much like his role in Minnesota from 2023 to 2024, Quessenberry will waltz into Los Angeles as offensive line depth.

Role in LA

Quessenberry projects to back up Alaric Jackson this season at left tackle, similar to his role behind Christian Darrisaw and Brian O’Neill in the last two campaigns.

These are Los Angeles’ offensive tackles at the end of May:

  • Alaric Jackson
  • Rob Havenstein
  • Warren McClendon Jr.
  • David Quessenberry
  • A.J. Arcuri
  • Trey Wedig

Most signees this late in free agency are typically on deck to fight for a roster spot in the summer, but due to the Rams’ skimpy OT depth, Quessenberry might have a job in the bag.

Quessenberry’s Career to Date

Here’s Quessenberry’s NFL resume through 12 seasons:

  • Houston Texans (2013–2017)
  • Tennessee Titans (2018–2021)
  • Buffalo Bills (2022)
  • Minnesota Vikings (2023–2024)
  • Los Angeles Rams (2025-current)

The man has played in 84 career games since 2013, starting 20, and was at the peak of his powers in 2021 when he started all 17 games for the Titans. He played over 1,200 offensive snaps that year and logged a sweet 79.2 Pro Football Focus grade, a feat he did not accomplish before 2021 and hasn’t quite replicated since.

Vikings OTs without Quessenberry

Of course, the Vikings did not re-sign Quessenberry this offseason, which caused some head scratches from fans because Christian Darrisaw may not be ready to start the season after tearing his ACL last October. The club, however, added another veteran tackle, Justin Skule, who would likely start at left tackle in Week 1 if Darrisaw is not ready.

Minnesota also has heralded undrafted free agent Logan Brown from Kansas on the depth chart, and a 2024 draft pick, Walter Rouse, in the house for the “Quessenberry role.”

Rams-Themed Media on the Quessenberry Move

SI.com’s Brock Vierra opined on the Quessenberry addition from a Rams perspective: “Quessenberry will already have an understanding of the base concepts of a Sean McVay offense as well as McVay’s blocking schemes, due to his experience under former Rams offensive coordinator and Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell.”

“Quessenberry’s brother Scott also played in the NFL, spending four seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers and the previous two with the Houston Texans. Scott is currently a free agent. Quessenberry’s inclusion on the roster continues to load up a tackle room full of players but devoid of starting positions.”

Los Angeles ousted Minnesota from the postseason 4.5 months ago, so Quessenberry basically joins the enemy.

Vierra added, “Alaric Jackson and Rob Havenstein will be the starting tackles, barring injury, as AJ Arcuri, KT Leveston, Warren McClendon Jr, Trey Wedig, and now Quessenberry will be competing for two backup positions. It should also be noted Arcuri saw playing time in 2024, and McClendon Jr was the Rams’ choice to backup the tackles, choosing him over veteran Joe Noteboom in the playoffs.”

“If Quessenberry is called into action, he will be entering an offense that has money on their mind. Matthew Stafford and Jackson just got paid and Puka Nacua, Davante Adams, Tutu Atwell, and Kyren Williams be either be up for an extension or they’re in a contract year.”

Quessenberry will turn 35 later this summer.
