The NFL’s free agency period is about four weeks away, and the Minnesota Vikings need a solution at running back.

Our Vikings RB Predictions for the 2025 Offseason

The RB fix could arrive from free agency, the 2025 NFL draft, or both. If the 2025 regular season started tomorrow, Ty Chandler would be the RB1 based on current roster construction.

So, we asked all VikingsTerritory writers to name the RB1-RB2 combo by the time the calendar hits May.

These are their answers.

1. Aaron Jones & Kaleb Johnson

Jones had a very good 2024 season and is a great locker-room leader. However, he will be 31 and is at his best when he has someone to share the load with. Johnson, out of Iowa, is big (6’0″, 225 pounds) and can add a physical presence to the position.

2. Aaron Jones & Omarion Hampton

VT Writer: Dustin Baker

Aaron Jones loves the Vikings, and the franchise seems to love him. He’s a culture guy, and Minnesota doesn’t often let those dudes slip away.

But because Jones is old in NFL terms, general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah will trade down the draftboard, allowing him to secure an extra 2nd-Round pick that will net Hampton’s services.

Hopefully Cam Akers will be back at RB3, too.

3. Cam Skattebo & Cam Akers

Skattebo should be available on Day 2. He is capable of doing just about everything at the running back position. Akers is a reliable backup if he stays healthy and should stay in purple.

4. Aaron Jones & Cam Akers

As you were, Aaron Jones and Cam Akers will again be RB1 and RB2 to start the 2025 season.

5. Aaron Jones & Quinshon Judkins

RB1 — Aaron Jones, who functions as the starter but who carries a smaller workload than in 2024. RB2 — Quinshon Judkins, who gets sprinkled into the mix as MIN works toward developing their RB of the future.

6. Aaron Jones & Cam Skattebo

The purple team will approach the offseason looking to retain one of Aaron Jones or Cam Akers and then look to add another from this deep running back draft class. Insert Cam Skattebo.

t7. Aaron Jones & TreVeyon Henderson

VT Writer: Janik Eckardt

Minnesota will re-sign impending free agent Aaron Jones after a season with 1,500 yards from scrimmage. However, at the age of 30, he is not the long-term option. That man will arrive in the draft. Kevin O’Connell will fall in love with Ohio State’s TreVeyon Henderson, who is a good pass protector, a receiving threat, and a solid runner.

VT Writer: Henrique Gucciardi

Jones showed that he can still be a productive running back, and the coaching staff loves him, so it’s fair to assume that he will be back. In a “once in a generation” draft class, Kwesi Adofo-Mensah selects TreVeyon Henderson as the second part of a very promising 1-2 punch.

t8. Kaleb Johnson & Cam Akers

VT Writer: Ted Schwerzler

RB1 is Cam Akers. The Vikings bring him back and give him the lead role. RB2 is a mid-round pick that competes with Ty Chandler for the role. Let’s go with Kaleb Johnson of Iowa.

Vikings will say goodbye to Aaron Jones, who is 30 years old and may not be worth what he asks for. They will re-sign Akers and draft Johnson.
