Must-Have Free Agents for Vikings

The NFL always has an unofficial fourth wave (or so) of free agency after the NFL Draft, as teams strike out at certain positions in late April.

Must-Have Free Agents for Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings only had four draft picks this go-round, which they turned into five, so there was just no way to onboard a typical batch of promising rookies.

Therefore, with free agency still a tool for roster fortification, we asked all VikingsTerritory writers for one free agent apiece whom Minnesota should sign.

These are their suggestions.

1. Kendall Fuller (CB)

VT Writer: Kyle Joudry

GM Kyle Joudry would spend all of the team’s cap space on pass rushers, so the temptation is to say Za’Darius Smith. Allow me to instead say Kendall Fuller, a versatile corner who is a touch older. Help to solidify the floor within the secondary. Can play in the slot and along the outside.

2. J.K. Dobbins (RB)

VT Writer: Henrique Gucciardi

Aaron Jones and Jordan Mason are a very good one-two punch, but the Vikings have little depth behind them. Dobbins has an injury history, but played well last year and could give the Vikings a third solid pair of legs in games.

3. Shaquill Griffin (CB)

VT Writer: Adam New

Nothing fancy is needed at this point, but bringing Shaquill Griffin back to add some veteran presence at cornerback would be smart.

4. Cam Akers (RB)

VT Writer: Dustin Baker

We already know the Vikings absolutely love Cam Akers. Why wait until September or October to donate a 6th-Rounder via trade? Minnesota demonstrated through its actions in 2024 that it valued Akers more than Ty Chandler. That probably hasn’t changed. Sign Akers now for NFL pennies and save the trade hardship this autumn.

t5. Rasul Douglas (CB)

VT Writer: Cole Smith

The Vikings should get a cornerback, but the name may not be who everyone else thinks. I’m going with Rasul Douglas, who Packer fans were upset to see leave for Buffalo. He’s 30, but age hasn’t scared Brian Flores before. Douglas brings leadership to the locker room as well.

t5. Rasul Douglas (CB)

VT Writer: Wes Johnson

The Vikings could stand to add another veteran presence to the DB room, and while Asante Samuel Jr. fits the Kwesi Adofo-Mensah narrative of player, so should Douglas. Douglas is coming off a down season with the Bills, but had been somewhat dominant in years prior. He’s a long physical corner who would mesh well with what Brian Flores wants to do on the outside.

t6. Jack Jones (CB)

VT Writer: Jack Day

The roster feels rounded out, and fans should be excited about what’s been built this offseason. Add another cornerback to compete for a starting spot; a room with lingering concerns could become a long-term strength. Lock in Jack Jones.

t6. Jack Jones (CB)

VT Writer: Tony Schultz

Jones is a big corner who can match up against the stronger wide receivers in Minnesota’s division and is one of the best pass rushers out of the defensive backfield. He seems to fit the Flores scheme, and Minnesota tried to claim him off waivers in the past.

t7. Mike Hilton (CB)

VT Writer: Janik Eckardt

Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Mike Hilton (21) stands by as his fumble recovery is reviewed in the second quarter of the NFL Week 10 game between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Houston Texans at Paycor Stadium in downtown Cincinnati on Sunday, Nov. 12, 2023.

The slot defender has spent his entire career with the Steelers and Bengals in the AFC North; it’s time he switches to the NFC North. In addition to his reliable slot coverage, Hilton is the best blitzing cornerback in football, and guess who loves to send extra rushers more than anyone, and where that man is the defensive coordinator? His name rhymes with Ryan Torres.

t7. Mike Hilton (CB)

VT Writer: Ali Siddiqui

Asante Samuel Jr. is available but reportedly has a neck issue. Hilton is another good option. Can cover and also blitz. He’d be a good fit in Brian Flores’ defense.
