The Minnesota Vikings have hit rock bottom in 2025.

They were shut out by the Seattle Seahawks last weekend, losing 26-0 at Lumen Field, and it marked their fourth consecutive loss to drop to an abysmal 4-8 record. It’s the first time they’ve been four games below .500 since Week 6 of the 2020 season.

Minnesota has virtually no chance of making the playoffs at this point unless a couple teams in the NFC utterly collapse down the stretch, but that chance isn’t zero quite yet. As the Vikings try to make one more last-ditch effort to regroup at the end of the year, here is what fans need to know ahead of Week 14 against the Washington Commanders.

The Minnesota Vikings and Washington Commanders will kick off their Week 14 matchup at 12 p.m. on Sunday, December 7 inside U.S. Bank Stadium. The game will be broadcast on FOX and can be streamed on NFL+ in the NFL app as well as NFL Sunday Ticket on YouTube TV.

Commanders vs. Vikings History

The Commanders and Vikings have met a grand total of 28 times throughout the histories of the two franchises, including five playoff matchups. Overall, the Vikings have a slight lead in the all-time series with a 15-13 record against Washington. However, they are just 2-3 against Washington in those playoff matchups, with the most recent being a Wild Card matchup on January 2, 1993.

Recently, though, Minnesota has had Washington’s number with wins in five of the past six meetings between the two teams. The most recent win came on November 6, 2022, when Kirk Cousins led the Vikings to a win against his former team on the road.

Commanders Spotlight Player: QB Jayden Daniels

Jayden Daniels has been sidelined for four weeks after suffering a scary elbow dislocation in Week 9 against the Seattle Sehawks. However, the quarterback seems set to return to the field this weekend after being listed as a full participant in practice on Thursday.

The Commanders have struggled to a 3-9 record this season with a 2-4 record when Daniels is under center. However, a lot of that has to do with the defense as Washington has allowed 25+ points in each of the losses when Daniels has been in the lineup.

In his six games, Daniels has thrown for 1184 yards for eight touchdowns compared to just two interceptions while adding 262 rushing yards and a pair of rushing touchdowns. The Vikings defense will have their hands full if Daniels is back in the lineup Sunday.

Vikings Spotlight Player: DT Jonathan Allen

This week will be the first time Jonathan Allen has been on the opposing sideline of a Washington Commanders game during his career. The veteran defensive tackle spent the first eight years of his NFL career in Washington before signing a three-year deal with the Vikings this spring.

So far, Allen’s first season in Minnesota has not exactly gone to plan as he has recorded just five tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks through the first 12 games. The Commanders haven’t been a team to give up a ton of sacks this year either (ranking 19th in sacks allowed at 29). We’ll see if the veteran brings a little extra juice for his former team.
