Fan-Favorite Vikings WR Leaves for Cardinals
Long-time Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Trishton Jackson has departed the organization, signing a futures contract with the Arizona Cardinals this week.
At least for a while — Jackson could eventually find his way back to the Twin Cities, perhaps in the summer, for example — Jackson is gone. He’s a Cardinal.
Cardinals reporter Bo Brack tweeted Thursday, “The Arizona Cardinals have signed WR Quez Watkins to a futures contract. The Cards also inked wideout Trishton Jackson to a futures deal.”
Jackson will join this Cardinals WR room in 2025, a list that does not include free agents to be:
- Marvin Harrison Jr.
- Michael Wilson
- Xavier Weaver
- Andre Baccellia
- Tejhaun Palmer
- Trishton Jackson
The Vikings promoted Jackson from the practice squad to the active roster in two games in September. He played 10 offensive snaps in 2024 and two special teams plays.
If Jackson’s name sounds familiar, it’s because he dazzled in the preseason — from cover to cover. Versus the Las Vegas Raiders, Cleveland Browns, and Philadelphia Eagles in August, Jackson tabulated 9 receptions for 154 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns. And those were stat lines from partial games. He didn’t play all four quarters of each game. On the scoring acumen, Jackson hit paydirt in all three contests. His endzone participation in the preseason took no weekends off.
The 26-year-old has actually been part of the Vikings roster and practice squad since 2021, carried over from the Mike Zimmer era to Kevin O’Connell’s team. He caught 66 passes for 1,023 yards and 11 touchdowns in his final season at Syracuse four years ago. And he was the guy who grabbed a two-point conversion from Joshua Dobbs in last year’s Vikings win at the Atlanta Falcons.
Justin Jefferson even pounded the table for Jackson in August: “He’s a dog. He’s from Detroit. He has that Detroit mindset. Just the way he comes to work every single day — he’s a hooper, so he knows how to move and how to get open.”
“The catch point of the ball, he’s definitely making plays out there. He’s showing up every time on the film, so the more he shows up, the more has a chance to be out there on the field on Sundays,” Jefferson added.
Arizona’s offense ranked 11th-best in 2024 per DVOA.
Jackson will turn 27 in March.
