Eagles Drop Former Viking 10 Days before Super Bowl

One week. That’s how long the Nick Muse era lasted in Philadelphia.

Eagles Drop Former Viking 10 Days before Super Bowl

The Eagles signed the former Vikings tight end last Thursday, and seven days later, Muse it out of a job. Philadelphia’s social media team tweeted, “We have opened the practice windows for TE CJ Uzomah and DE Brandon Graham, signed RB Lew Nichols to the Practice Squad, and released TE Nick Muse from the Practice Squad.”

Unless the Eagles sign Muse to a futures deal after Super Bowl LIX, his time in Philadelphia is kaput. Without Muse in the mix, these are Philadelphia’s tight ends for the Super Bowl:

  • Dallas Goedert
  • Grant Calcaterra
  • E.J. Jenkins
  • C.J. Uzomah (IR)
  • Cameron Latu (Futures Contract)

In all likelihood, Muse will hit the free-agent pool and be free to sign anywhere in the business six weeks from now when free agency formally kicks off.

The South Carolina alumnus has played in 16 regular season games since entering the NFL as a 7th-Round pick in 2022, producing one reception for 22 yards. He totaled 805 receiving yards in 31 games as a Gamecock from 2019 to 2021.

Muse said during his pursuit of the 53-man roster last summer, “Not many people get to play in the NFL. This is a dream come true for 99 percent of the little kids. I wanted to be how I am right now.”

Before joining the Eagles last week, Muse last made headlines when the Vikings cut him on his birthday. He made light of his roster waiver and posted a comedic video to X, formerly known as Twitter, saying in November, “Look at that. Look at that. You know what they call that? They call that NFL history. How many times do two brothers both get cut on their birthdays? That’s pretty sick to me. I mean, it’s the wrong side of NFL history, but hey, you win some you lose some. I appreciate your birthday messages, and we vibe.”

The Vikings elevated Muse to the gameday roster three times down the stretch of the 2024 regular season. Since joining the club as an 7th-Round pick in 2022, the Vikings have cut Muse thrice.

The Eagles are 1.5-point underdogs against the Kansas Chiefs in the Super Bowl after knocking off the upstart Washington Commanders last Sunday. Eagles-Chiefs is a rematch of Super Bowl LVII two years ago.

Muse could actually end up back with the Vikings on the spring and summer roster. Stay tuned. He’ll turn 27 next November.
