Dustin Baker Drops His Super Bowl LX Prediction

The Super Bowl is five months away, but the NFL regular season is already here.
Dustin Baker releases his formal Super Bowl LX prediction, laying out an early call on which teams could reach February, and who will win the chip.
Last year, the Philadelphia Eagles flogged the Kansas City Chiefs, pausing Kansas City’s dynasty and putting Jalen Hurts on the map as one of the best quarterbacks of his era.
The Eagles won’t quite make it back to the Super Bowl this year, however, replaced by a familiar foe.
Here’s the Super Bowl prediction for 2025.
The Super Bowl LX Pick in September
Last year’s prediction? Bengals over Eagles. Not quite right.

AFC Champion: Kansas City Chiefs
This website is not betting or endorsing against the Chiefs for one simple reason: We are not stupid.
The Chiefs may be low on folks’ radar in early September, but they should be hungrier than ever to resume their dynasty after an abrupt pause, courtesy of the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX.
We believe Patrick Mahomes remains the best player in the sport, even if other top-notch passers are winning the MVP award. In fact, the loss to the Eagles might’ve perfectly refocused Kansas City on the prize.
NFL.com’s Eric Edholm noted on the Chiefs before the season began: “For all the talk about his downslide, I’ll let someone else bet against Mahomes. He is about to turn 30 years old, and the Chiefs have finished atop the AFC West in all seven of his seasons as a starter.”
“In fact, Andy Reid is going for his 10th straight division title. There will be more threats within the division, and there’s no question the Chiefs benefited from some close shaves last season, but I can’t in good conscience write them off as title contenders.”
NFC Champion: San Francisco 49ers
The Eagles probably won’t make it back to February. The Detroit Lions always choke. The Washington Commanders could regress if 2024 were too good to be true. The Green Bay Packers, outside of Micah Parsons, don’t have a to-die-for depth chart. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have an NFC Championship ceiling. And Matthew Stafford is battling a mysterious back ailment.
Plus, we’re not wild enough to believe Minnesota will win it all in Year No. 1 of J.J. McCarthy. That feels like a homer’s take.
All of that said, the 49ers are the last men standing.

Niner Noise‘s Luke Norris picked Fred Warner to win Defensive Player of the Year this week:
It’s not often these days that a linebacker wins DPOY. In fact, over the last 11 seasons, only one has done so, that being the Pittsburgh Steelers’ T.J. Watt in 2021. But he’s obviously more of the edge-rushing type of linebacker, which Warner clearly is not.
So, if one were to go back and look at the last non-edge kind of a linebacker to win the award, that would be Carolina Panthers legend Luke Kuechly, who took the honor in 2013 after recording 156 total tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks, seven passes defended, and four interceptions. And those are the types of numbers we’re expecting from Warner this year.
A season ago, he tallied 131 total tackles, five tackles for loss, four forced fumbles, two interceptions, including a 45-yard pick-six, and a sack. So, if he can tack on just a little bit more, he’s going to be right there in the mix.

Kansas City Chiefs vs. San Francisco 49ers
Indeed, this matchup may be tired, but at least it produces entertaining games.

Kyle Shanahan hasn’t fostered back-to-back poor seasons since his career began eight years ago, and he won’t start now. Meanwhile, although the Chiefs looked clumsy on Friday night in Brazil, they’ll use the second half of the season to sharpen their mindset, along with receiving Rashee Rice back in the lineup.
The teams that met in Super Bowls LIV and LVIII will do battle a third time in February.

Super Bowl MVP
Patrick Mahomes
The most popular Super Bowl prediction in 2025 is Ravens-Eagles.

ESPN’s David Purdum explained on Thursday: “Philadelphia is a growing favorite over Dallas in its season opener Thursday. After opening with the Eagles -7, the line has grown steadily over the last week and could be found as high as -8.5 on Thursday. Baltimore is a consensus 1-point road favorite over the Bills on Sunday night.”
“It’s only the fourth time in the past 45 seasons that the top two Super Bowl favorites have met in Week 1, according to ESPN Research. The Sunday night showdown also matches two of the top three candidates to win regular-season MVP, with Baltimore’s Lamar Jackson the favorite at +450 and Buffalo’s Josh Allen at +650. Cincinnati quarterback Joe Burrow is the second-favorite for MVP, listed at +600 at ESPN BET.”
