It’s prediction time. Here, I will review each of the Minnesota Vikings’ 17 regular-season games, giving my thoughts and a prediction for the outcome. Eventually, we will have a win-loss record for the entire season.

Last year, I turned out to be overly pessimistic in my prediction of an 8-9 record for the Vikings. I don’t think many foresaw a 14-win season coming, but Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell has proved a master of the regular season so far in Minnesota. Can he do it again?

My final win-loss prediction for the 2025 Vikings is 11-6.

I expect the NFC North division to be hotly contested once again in 2025, but 11 wins should be enough to see the Vikings play playoff football in January.

Predicting the Vikings’ Wins and Losses in 2025

Week 1-6

The first block of fixtures sees the Vikings start against divisional opponents, square off against a trio of AFC North opponents, and travel to Europe for a double header in two different countries—all before a Week 6 bye.

Week 1: Win at Bears 1-0

Week 2: Win vs Falcons 2-0

Week 3: Loss vs Bengals 2-1

Week 4: Win at Steelers 3-1

Week 5: Win at Browns 4-1

Week 6: Bye Week

I have the Vikings making a great start to the season with a win in Chicago and at home to Atlanta. As well as keeping their unbeaten record in international games, not having to play in Pittsburgh and Cleveland’s home stadiums should be a definite advantage. Sandwiched in the middle is a loss at home to Cincinnati. Going into the bye week with a 4-1 record would represent a dream start to the JJ McCarthy era in Minnesota.

Week 7-12

The middle part of the season looks tough on paper for the Vikings, with road trips to two divisional rivals and a jaunt across the country to the West Coast. The home games don’t get any easier with two of the strongest teams in the league coming to Minnesota, as well as a divisional opponent. Success (or lack of) in this part of the schedule could define the Vikings’ season.

Week 7: Loss vs Eagles 4-2

Week 8: Win at Chargers 5-2

Week 9: Loss at Lions 5-3

Week 10: Loss vs Ravens 5-4

Week 11: Win vs Bears 6-4

Week 12: Loss at Packers 6-5

I have Minnesota going 2-4 through this tough portion of the schedule with a win in LA and at home to the Bears. Wins on the road at Detroit and Green Bay and at home to Baltimore and Philadelphia would be a bonus and a signal that this team is ready for greater things than I’m expecting. Getting out of this part of the season with a winning record still intact would put the Vikings in a good position to attack the final part of the schedule.

Week 13-18

We are now at the business end of the season. Three of the first four games are on the road before a pair of massive divisional games at US Bank Stadium to finish the regular season. There is every chance those two games will be like playoff football come early.

Week 13: Win at Seahawks 7-5

Week 14: Win vs Commanders 8-5

Week 15: Loss at Cowboys 8-6

Week 16: Win at Giants 9-6

Week 17: Win vs Lions 10-6

Week 18: Win vs Packers 11-6

I have Minnesota winning two of the final three road games of the season, against Seattle and the New York Giants, while taking a loss in Dallas. The Vikings host the Washington Commanders before Detroit and Green Bay come to Minnesota to round out the season.

Three huge games in front of the Minnesota faithful that will determine whether Minnesota’s season ends in success or failure. I have O’Connell guiding his team to three wins and 11 for the season.

So much of the fortunes of the 2025 Vikings hinge on the unknown quantity of McCarthy at quarterback. The rest of the roster is built to make a serious run, so much so that there’s a feeling that McCarthy only needs to be average in his first season for the Vikings to be contenders. I believe McCarthy will be good, but with some growing pains through the season.

An 11-6 record represents that.
