Aaron Rodgers to Vikings Has New Ally

Hall of Famer Jared Allen wants a future Hall of Famer to lead his old team in 2025.
Aaron Rodgers to Vikings Has New Ally
That’s Aaron Rodgers, a soon-to-be ex-New York Jet, and Allen endorsed him as the Minnesota Vikings’ quarterback in 2025.

“Reluctantly, yes. Only because I experienced it with Brett,” Allen told Kay Adams this week when she asked if he’d support Rodgers in purple. He likened Rodgers to Brett Favre whose career has totally resembled Rodgers’.
Minnesota has J.J. McCarthy on deck to lead the team in 2025, while the 2024 signal-caller, Sam Darnold, is scheduled to hit free agency. The Vikings’ quarterback plans are a hot offseason topic at the moment, with free agency 20 days away.

“And it’s creepy how it’s the same path, right?” Allen said about Rodgers’ career arc compared to Favre’s. “Brett went to the Jets, everybody thought he was done, he came to us in 2009, and he had fire. He was hungry, and we went out and destroyed the North. … I’m not opposed.”
New York hired a new general manager, Darren Mougey, and head coach, Aaron Glenn, in recent weeks, and the tandem said “no thanks” to more Rodgers. The Jets traded for Rodgers two years ago, and the experiment utterly flopped — due to injury in 2023 and poor performance, at least per Rodgers’ lofty standard, in 2024.
“The question would be, is what does his drive left?” Allen said. “Like was does Rodgers want to do? I think that’s the question. If this were to play out to fruition, Kwesi Adofo-Mensah and the coaching staff, O’Connell and the coaching staff would have to sit down with him, and he’d have to give an honest assessment of how much passion do you have left for this game.”

“Can you go out there and give it one more year? I think that would be the biggest question. As a fan, I think it’s interesting. I think it’s fun.”
The Vikings are severely unlikely to sign Rodgers, a man two decades older than McCarthy. General manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah carefully rebuilt the franchise over the last three years, and handing the keys to Rodgers would symbolize backward thinking.

But like all offseason rumors, Rodgers-to-Vikings will live off fumes until he retires or joins a new team. Other clubs, like the Las Vegas Raiders and Pittsburgh Steelers, could poke around Rodgers’ impending free agency.
Rodgers ranked 22nd among all quarterbacks in 2024 per EPA+CPOE, an efficiency metric evaluating all passers.
