7 Free Agents the Vikings Must Look At
The Minnesota Vikings have signed no notable free agents this summer, despite holding about $25 million in cap space.
The Vikings still have time to upgrade their roster. Here are seven free agents who could help the roster — including at EDGE rushers, cornerbacks, and wide receivers.
General manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah could also simply hang onto the funds for a rainy day during the middle of the regular season — or roll over the cash to the 2026 budget.
But if he does make a splash in free agency before the start of the regular season, our writers have recommendations.

The Vikings have plenty of time and cash to add free agents.
1. Zack Moss | RB
VT Writer: Janik Eckardt
The Cincinnati Bengals just said goodbye to the veteran runner, whom they hired a year ago to be their top back. His neck injury, suffered during his first year as a teammate of Joe Burrow, knocked him out of the lineup, while rookie Chase Brown took over.
He might not be the most dynamic back in the league, but he is a proven rotational player and would be a major upgrade over Ty Chandler, Zavier Scott, and Tre Stewart as the Vikings’ RB3.
2. Stephon Gilmore | CB
VT Writer: Cole Smith
My recommendation is for the Vikings to sign Stephon Gilmore. He performed well in 2024 and may not be asked to play as many snaps if younger options can step up. But he knows Brian Flores’ system and can still produce, as evidenced by his game-sealing interception of Aaron Rodgers in Week 5.
3. Nelson Agholor | WR
VT Writer: Wesley Johnson
With the looming Addison suspension and somewhat lackluster depth behind the top two, it would behoove the Vikings to snag a dependable WR from the FA pool. There’s no obvious connective tissue between some of the top available names and this coaching staff. But names like Gabe Davis, Nelson Agholor, or Tyler Boyd make a lot more sense than, say, Keenan Allen or Amari Cooper.
My pick of the bunch: Agholor. In his time with the Ravens, he has always been the low-maintenance back-end WR who will come in and show up when asked.
4. Asante Samuel Jr. | CB
VT Writer: Dustin Baker
Samuel Jr.’s health is a humongous question mark and maybe even a red flag. But if the Vikings’ brass learns that he’s cleared to play, it should sign him to a one-year prove-it deal. This could forge the relationship beyond 2025, setting up Samuel Jr. to play his prime years with the Vikings.
Fans are enamored with Isaiah Rodgers and Jeff Okudah at the moment, and that is fine. But on any other football team — if you were scouting a Vikings opponent, for example — that duo would be considered a roster weakness from an August standpoint.
Get Samuel Jr. for cheap if his health is intact.
5. Chase Edmonds | RB
VT Writer: Adam New
The one spot on the roster that could still do with some veteran depth is running back. The options are starting to dwindle, but Chase Edmonds would be one guy who can fill that role.
t6. Rasul Douglas | CB
VT Writer: Ali Siddiqui
The starting CBs no doubt are Byron Murphy Jr. and Isaiah Rodgers, but after that, there are some question marks. Mekhi Blackmon is coming off a torn ACL, and while Jeff Okudah is reportedly looking good in camp, he has an injury history.
t6. Rasul Douglas | CB
VT Writer: Ted Schwerzler
The Vikings need to use the early part of camp to really evaluate the cornerback position. That seems like the one position where they need help.
t7. Jadeveon Clowney | OLB
VT Writer: Kyle Joudry
I would be talking to Jadevon Clowney’s representation if I were the team’s GM. My football philosophy — if I were in charge of building a roster — would be to load up on pass rushers relentlessly. He is older, yes, but he would be an excellent EDGE4.
t7. Jadeveon Clowney | OLB
VT Writer: Henrique Gucciardi
Even though the starting trio is more than set, the depth behind them is less proven. Clowney never turned out to be the player everyone expected, but his size and strength could make him a valuable rotational player in Flores’ defense.
Bonus: Nobody
VT Writer: Tony Schultz
Generally speaking, no one. The Vikings seem pretty set. We’re not hearing about too many struggles, except with the backup quarterbacks. Bringing someone in at that position would not be an upgrade. The defense is working out well, and the biggest question on that side of the ball has been cornerback, and even that seems to be set with Dwight McGlothern and Jeff Okudah making strides.
The team’s health is great, so there’s no one to replace in that fashion. You can bring in Zach Moss as a strong veteran backup at running back or Keenan Allen as a great veteran possession receiver for when Addisson is sidelined, but no one right now is a “must-get” on the market.
