The 6 Best Decisions of the Vikings Offseason So Far

The offseason has proceeded wonderfully for the purple team, earning glowing reviews from the fan base.

So, we asked Vikings fans to name the best offseason decision to date, with less than five weeks before the 2025 NFL Draft.

Question to all: Pertaining to everything, what is the Vikings’ single-best offseason decision to date? You can be as specific or broad as you want.

Here are fans’ responses.

1. Letting Sam Darnold Walk

I love all of the signings. But to me, what makes it all possible is letting Sam walk, resisting the urge to bring in over-the-hill Aaron Rodgers, and riding with JJ McCarthy.

2. Signing Ryan Kelly

The one-year deal for C Ryan Kelly. Not only is he assumed to be a massive upgrade at center, but as we’ve learned, he was crucial for swiftly getting right guard Will Fries in the building.

3. Fixing Offensive and Defensive Trenches

It took a long time, but finally, building/replacing the trenches on both sides was the best thing to do, and taking the running game seriously again by resigning Jones and trading for Mason from SF was a great move!

4. Keeping Adofo-Mensah and O’Connell at the Top of the Ticket

Overall, hiring KOC and Kwesi! The leadership and decisions of these two have been incredible! KOC is special, and I’m so glad he’s our coach.

Fixing the interior offensive line. Ryan Kelly and Will Fries are great additions. While not necessary, using a high draft pick on a left guard would be the icing on the cake.

The best decision so far is signing Ryan Kelly and Will Fries. I was more excited about the DT additions, but improving the OL at their two weakest spots over the last six years, I think, will pay the most dividends due to setting up J.J. McCarthy for the most success possible. He’s the future, and it’s about damn time they invested in the interior offensive line.

t6. Nominating J.J. McCarthy as QB1

It would not be easy to say which player was the best acquisition last year in free agency, even with the benefit of seeing how they all did. It was the best free agency ever. This year? You ask me an impossible question, but just because you expect something, I’ll say this: Going with McCarthy saying, “he is our guy.” No distraction. No excuses. The best result will come.

The best offseason decision the Vikings have made is not wavering and deciding to move forward with J.J. McCarthy as QB1. It could have been easy to see Aaron Rodgers available and think back to his prime days, but KOC and Kwesi were able to see that that time has passed and that McCarthy is the future of this team.

Going with JJ McCarthy. So many would have chosen safer options. Now, we get to use the rookie contract to the full extent.
