Minnesota Vikings fans have been entranced by the 2025 NFL Draft and its lead-up for the past six weeks, but soon, focus will return to free agency.

6 Free Agents the Vikings Should Sign after Draft

Dozens of notable free agents live on the open market, and the Vikings have some cash to spend, approximately $12 million before clearing any cap space via contractual restructures with existing players.

And with the draft winding down, general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah should explore these six free agents.

Note: The Vikings won’t sign all these players. These are merely the wise options.

1. Shaquill Griffin (CB)

Old faithful.

Griffin conducted a free-agent visit with the Seattle Seahawks a couple of weeks ago, the team that drafted him in 2017, but no deal emerged from the discussion. No cornerbacks from Rounds 1 through 3 emerged from the Vikings draft either, so re-upping with Griffin for a year might be a wise insurance policy.

Adding a corner boils down to whether the Vikings trust Byron Murphy Jr., Isaiah Rodgers, Mekhi Blackmon, Jeff Okudah, and Dwight McGlothern in 2025.

2. Mike Hilton (CB)

Hilton might be the best blitzing cornerback in football. The Vikings employ the most blitz-happy defensive coordinator in the world.

It’s a fit.

Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Mike Hilton (21) stands by as his fumble recovery is reviewed in the second quarter of the NFL Week 10 game between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Houston Texans at Paycor Stadium in downtown Cincinnati on Sunday, Nov. 12, 2023.

Minnesota views itself as a Super Bowl contender, and if it can convince Hilton of that, well, sign him up for a season or two.

3. Jack Jones (CB)

In 2022, Adofo-Mensah spent a Top 30 visit on Jones, a cornerback whom the New England Patriots would eventually draft in Round 4. New England soured on him a year and a half later, and guess who put in a waiver claim on Jones that week? The Vikings.

Now, Jones is available again, and once and for all, Adofo-Mensah can sign him if he’s in the mood.

4. Asante Samuel Jr. (CB)

Last week, some rumors surfaced about Samuel Jr.’s long-term health. They seemed to hint at an injury that could threaten his career.

Well, if the rumor mill is wrong, and Samuel Jr. is in decent shape, Adofo-Mensah should sign him and showcase him as the CB2 or CB3. He’s that talented.

Samuel Jr. has actually been inside the purple rumor mill for about five weeks after a wild story about him allegedly wearing a Vikings hat in a Miami nightclub. The account was never fully confirmed.

5. Ryan Tannehill (QB)

Tannehill didn’t play football in 2024, but he takes the cake per experienced veteran quarterbacks on the open market.

Adofo-Mensah could’ve signed Tannehill any time within the last six weeks and not affected his 2026 compensatory draft pick formula, which suggests he’s not all that interested in Tannehill.

Still, he’s a better QB2 option than Brett Rypien, or so the popular consensus states.

6. Carson Wentz (QB)

Perhaps the wisest option on this list, Wentz can be signed Monday without sullying the aforementioned compensatory formula.

He’d be a phenomenal backup in purple, a player who could win games in a pinch if called upon by noted quarterback whisperer Kevin O’Connell.

Aside from Tannehill, Tyler Huntley, or any trade, Wentz is the Vikings’ last hope to obtain a high-profile QB2 until one or more get released this summer.
