The offseason is closing out Week No. 2, and so far, the Minnesota Vikings have extended their head coach to a multi-year agreement.

6 Draft Suggestions for the Vikings

Free agency is less than seven weeks away, and the NFL Draft will occur in late April.

So, we asked Vikings fans about recommendations for the 1st Round of the draft — basically how they’re feeling about three months out.

Question to all: What should the Vikings do in Round 1 of the draft? It’s pick No. 24. This is open-ended, so you can name a player, position, trade back, trade up, etc. Anything you want.

Here’s that list.

1. Trade Back and Select RB Kaleb Johnson

I feel the Vikes will be very active in free agency and fill their most significant needs, possibly multiple iOLs and CBs (Trey Smith and DJ Reed, to start). I would trade back to the top of the second round for multiple picks and take Kaleb Johnson, RB Iowa.

2. Choose a Cornerback

Hopefully the Vikings will bring back Byron Murphy Jr., but even then, there will be a need at cornerback. I’ve got my eye on Shavon Revel Jr. from East Carolina and Benjamin Morrison from Notre Dame as a couple of good, realistic options.

3. Select the Best CB or DT on the Board

They should stay put where they are and take the best CB/DT on the board. I wouldn’t hate a small trade down, but not out of the first round. They should wait on RB until round 3 unless it’s Ashton Jeanty.

t4. Get a Running Back

It depends, of course, on free agency, but I maintain that the prime of a running back’s career is in his first contract, so I’m on board with an RB. If I were Kwesi, I would trade back a little, select the best running back still on the board, and put most free agency chips into the offensive line.

If Jeanty is available at 24, take him. A young RB with the talent to be a game-changer would be huge for this team. Sink free-agent money into the trenches and find a game-changer for the backfield. If Jeanty isn’t available, move back and recoup picks for this year/next.

t5. Take the Best Player Available

The Vikings need to take BPA. We saw that last season when they took Dallas Turner, who they believe will be the best player in the long run. Let’s refine that operation a bit. If there’s a powerhouse iOL, take him. Stud DT or cornerback? Go for it. Stick-n-pick, baby! Skol!

It would be great to get a CB, but if the CB prospects are going to “fall” to us in later rounds, “TAKE THE BEST ONE.” In round one, I want the best player available.

t6. Trade Back

I think the Vikings should trade back to add a few picks since drafting a CB rarely works for us. They also need to get a top guard through free agency.

The Vikings should definitely trade back. We need more picks, and the difference between picks 24 and 40 is a lot less than the difference at the top of the draft
