5 Players the Vikings Should Re-Sign in 2025

The Minnesota Vikings’ 2024 season ended about two weeks ago with a thud against the Los Angeles Rams.

5 Players to Re-Sign in Vikings Free Agency

Minnesota’s offseason is now formally underway, and free agency kicks off in less than seven weeks.

The Vikings must decide on Sam Darnold’s free-agent status contract, find a top cornerback, improve the trenches (offense and defense), and probably upgrade at running back.

And to kickstart the offseason, these are five players already in-house that the Vikings should re-sign. They’re ranked in ascending order (No. 1 = most important to re-sign).

Sam Darnold and Camryn Bynum were left off this list because their price tags could be too large. Adding a free-agent safety — like Jevon Holland — with the money that would’ve been used on Bynum could be fantastic.

5. Johnny Mundt (TE)

This man can ball.

He caught about one catch per game in 2024, a fairly standard stat line for a TE3. Mundt will be affordable and deserves a fourth act in The North Star State.

Bring him back.

4. Cam Akers (RB)

Akers is a dependable RB2, and the Vikings should re-sign him outright if only to avoid trading for him in a third consecutive season.

General manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah traded for Akers in 2023 and 2024; this time, just sign the guy in March and make it stress-free. He’ll fit in with whichever plan the Vikings choose at running back in 2024.

3. Theo Jackson (S)

Minnesota could lose Harrison Smith to retirement and Camryn Bynum in free agency.

Then, it will glance down at the roster and wonder if Josh Metellus and Jay Ward can do the trick as starters — probably not on Ward.

Jackson has shown flashes of promise in the last couple of seasons, so the Vikings should re-sign him for depth or explore his starter’s upside if Smith + Bynum depart.

2. Daniel Jones (QB)

Jones shouldn’t be involved in any summer quarterback battles with J.J. McCarthy. Minnesota should hand McCarthy the baton with no debates.

Still, Jones can be an outstanding QB2 option, just like Sam Darnold in 2024. Their price tags might even be similar.

1. Byron Murphy (CB)

Murphy made his first Pro Bowl this season, increasing his salary in 2025 and beyond. Well, Murphy wasn’t shy about stating he wanted to return with the Vikings last summer, and now’s the time to hash out a deal.

The veteran CB should grow where he was planted, returning to Minnesota on a sweet three-year deal, likely worth $15+ million per season.

For context, this is the full list of Vikings free agents:
