3 Veteran Vikings Who Could Be in Danger of Being Cut as Training Camp Begins

Now that training camp has officially gotten underway in Eagan, each of the 90 players on the Minnesota Vikings’ roster is racing towards a spot on the final 53-man roster.
Veterans reported to camp on Tuesday, but inevitably, some of these players will not make the final roster. Here is a look at three veteran Vikings who could be in danger of being cut in favor of younger players this season.
WR Rondale Moore

The Vikings have a pretty fierce battle coming at the wide receiver position. Right in the middle of that battle for the one or two roster spots behind Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, Jalen Nailor, and third-round pick Tai Felton, is Rondale Moore.
Moore, a 2021 second-round pick by the Arizona Cardinals, has never quite lived up to that billing during the first few years of his NFL career. He recorded 40+ receptions in each of his first three seasons, but in each year, those totals went down as did his receiving yardage. He is yet to surpass the 500-yard mark in a single season.
At 5’7″ and about 180 pounds, Moore is a tiny receiver who can only impact the offense in a limited way. Plus, if the Vikings want to utilize a speedy small receiver, Silas Bolden easily can fill a similar role while also having an impact on special teams given his success as a collegiate returner.
If the Vikings were to cut Moore, they would also save $1.15 million in salary cap space.
RB Ty Chandler

For awhile, it seemed like Ty Chandler was going to be the running back of the future in Minnesota, particularly after Dalvin Cook left the team following the 2022 season. Three years into his NFL career, and Chandler is yet to grab a consistent role in Minnesota’s offense.
It likely won’t be any easier to do so this year as Aaron Jones returned on a new two-year contract, and the Vikings also signed Jordan Mason in free agency.
C.J. Ham isn’t going anywhere from the backfield, either, so we’ll see how many running backs the Vikings decide to keep around. They could even go find another player in free agency if they are unhappy with Chandler as the team’s RB3.
LB Brian Asamoah

Brian Asamoah seemed like he was about to see his career take off down the stretch of his rookie season when he forced and recovered a crucial fumble against the New York Giants in 2022 during their Week 16 matchup.
It never happened.
Instead, Asamoah enters the final season of his rookie contract having yet to start a game at the NFL level, and he has not eclipsed 40 snaps played on defense since that rookie campaign. The Vikings have two solidified starters at the middle linebacker spot, Blake Cashman and Ivan Pace, a veteran reserve in Eric Wilson, and 2025 sixth-round pick, Kobe King, who easily could command a roster spot.
King played four seasons at Penn State and was an explosive athlete throughout his collegiate career, offering the Nittany Lions another pass rushing option with his elite burst. Wilson spent his first four seasons in Minnesota before spending the past four as a journeyman with the Eagles, Texans, and Packers.
If the Vikings were to cut Asamoah, they would save just under $1.5 million against the salary cap.
