The Kansas City Chiefs hope to become the first-ever team to win three Super Bowls consecutive in 13 days, taking on the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX, a team that downed the upstart Washington Commanders on Sunday.
3 Former Vikings Reached the Super Bowl
The Chiefs are early 1.5-point favorites.
And when that mighty game kicks off on February 9th, three former Minnesota Vikings players will be associated with the event.
They’re listed alphabetically.
1. Khari Blasingame (FB)
Minnesota added Blasingame as an undrafted free agent following the 2019 NFL Draft. He never played a game for the purple team but stayed attached to the roster for about eight months.
Blasingame didn’t make the 53-man roster trimdown in the summer of 2019. Minnesota added him to the practice squad that season, nevertheless. Two months later, the Tennessee Titans stole him from the practice squad, and he never returned to the Twin Cities.
Here’s his career resume to date:
- Minnesota Vikings (2019)
- Tennessee Titans (2019–2021)
- Chicago Bears (2022–2024)
- Philadelphia Eagles (2024–present)
He mainly plays special teams for the Eagles.
2. Lewis Cine (S)
This man joined the Vikings’ roster via Round 1 of the 2022 NFL Draft, the first selection of the Kwesi Adofo-Mensah era.
Soon after, Cine did not grab a starter’s job, relegated to special teams before brutally breaking his leg in a 2022 regular season game in London. He never really made it back to Minnesota’s defensive plans.
During roster shavedowns five months ago, Cine missed the cut and later signed with the Buffalo Bills. Then, the Eagles grabbed him off the Bills’ practice squad, and — boom — now Cine is in the Super Bowl.
Cine is on the Eagles’ active roster but has not played any snaps in the last three weeks.
3. Nick Muse (TE)
Eagles.com reporter Chris McPherson wrote last Wednesday, “The Eagles announced the following roster moves ahead of their walkthrough on Wednesday: Opened 21-day practice window for WR/PR Britain Covey; Signed OL Cameron Erving and TE Nick Muse to the practice squad; Released DE KJ Henry from practice squad.”
Minnesota elevated Muse to the gameday roster three times down the stretch of the 2024 regular season. Since joining the club as an 7th-Round pick in 2022, the Vikings have cut Muse thrice.
He caught one pass for the Vikings for 22 yards in 2023. On the practice squad, he’s unlikely to see live action in the Super Bowl unless an injury emerges.
