The 2025 NFL Combine is underway, and thanks to media availability from Minnesota Vikings general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah and head coach Kevin O’Connell, some updates hit the airwaves this week.

2 Major Vikings Injury Updates

Minnesota lost a few keynote performers in 2024, headlined by rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy and franchise cornerstone left tackle Christian Darrisaw.

Both are on the mend, though, and the Vikings’ brass provided specific updates in Indianapolis at the Combine.

Christian Darrisaw

O’Connell said Darrisaw was “doing really well in his rehab” after tearing his ACL last October.

Darrisaw missed the season’s remainder, and the Vikings later traded for offensive tackle Cam Robinson to stop the bleeding.

O’Connell went into more detail: “Christian Darrisaw’s doing really well in his rehab. When you go through the tape and watch CD’s impact, I think he was playing as well as anybody in football through those first six weeks. It was a huge loss. I’ll be very much looking forward to getting CD back.”

“He’s having a great offseason, the rehab process, he’s absolutely killing it every step of the way, so I look forward to seeing how his spring and summer go and get him ready to roll for 2025.”

Without Darrisaw, the Vikings turned to the aforementioned Robinson, who they acquired via trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Robinson is now scheduled to hit free agency in 12 days, and most expect him to join a new team.

Regarding Darrisaw, based on O’Connell’s comments, all focus will now turn to whether he’s ready for Week 1 or if his recovery bleeds into the regular season.

J.J. McCarthy

Since the dawn of the offseason, every McCarthy injury update has sounded glowing.

Tuesday was no different.

“J.J.’s doing really well from a standpoint of where he’s progressed to in his rehab. In a phase now where he’s got his sights set on that offseason program start date, and getting off to a great start there,” O’Connell said about his quarterback of the future.

McCarthy played in a single preseason game last August, producing an absolutely marvelous showing and exciting Vikings fans to the utmost. A few days later, he revealed a torn meniscus that sidelined him for all of 2024, paving the way for Sam Darnold to take over at QB1.

Adofo-Mensah said about McCarthy at the Combine: “Obviously, the injury was unfortunate But, you know, just understanding you’re learning a new language. You get conversational. You’re able to not just go out to dinner but have a conversation with somebody. Learn about something. So he’s conversational in our language, in our offensive language.”

“Understanding the ‘why,’ the intent behind things. You want to go out there and play free and let his talent take over. So all these steps, all the learning he’s done in the past year is going to allow him to be able to do that. We’re excited about the makeup of him. He’s been everything we want him to be, and we’re excited about his future.”

All signs indicate McCarthy’s go-live date at normal team activities this spring. There are no setbacks.
