No Chance Vikings Let Justin Jefferson Go for Gold, Right?

This week, NFL owners voted to allow active players the opportunity to participate in the upcoming Olympics. In 2028, the summer Olympics will be held in Los Angeles.

It’s fun that the event will be stateside. It’s crazy that the owners will follow through on their stance.
Justin Jefferson recently talked about how much he’d love to add a gold medal to his accolades. That’s an understandable desire given there are few circumstances better than the ability to represent your country. It’s wild to think his employer would be on board with that.

Sure, any potential participation in a flag football contest would have NFL players facing less physical exposure than playing the game in America. It’s also a possibility that non-contact injuries run rampant, and the competition sees the opportunity as a time to make a name for themselves.
The vast majority of American football players come from America. It’s laughable to think about Justin Jefferson torching a defender who is actually a mechanic from Austria. That player not knowing how to keep up, or engaging in an unsafe physical sense, would put a Vikings asset at risk, though.

In 2028, Justin Jefferson will be looking at his next contract extension. He’d be amid negotiations with the Wilf family, and something that could be a bargaining chip would be a desire to keep him out of unnecessary physical adventures.
How the NFL would ensure its superstars for the Olympics remains to be seen. How willing owners are actually going to be when the rubber meets the road should be fascinating.

It’s great that they voted to allow things to take place right now. Until the next Olympics cycle rolls around, though, it’s all hypothetical.
