Should the Vikings Make a Deal with the Devil?

The Minnesota Vikings have completed a couple of trades in the last week, obtaining two 6th-Round picks from the New York Jets in the Harrison Phillips trade, and grabbing a 5th-Rounder from the Philadelphia Eagles for Sam Howell and change.
The Minnesota Vikings might need one more wide receiver, and the Green Bay Packers could have one that makes the right amount of sense in 2025.
And general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah may not be done just yet. The young executive enjoys wheeling and dealing, and another trade could be on the horizon.
And one must wonder, how would wide receiver Romeo Doubs, currently a member of the Green Bay Packers, look in purple?
Vikings, in Theory, Could Inquire about Packers WR Romeo Doubs
Minnesota and Green Bay don’t do business often.

Romeo Doubs Allegedly on the Trade Block
The Packers drafted Texas WR Matthew Golden from Round 1 four months ago, thickening the WR room to the point where a recognizable player or two could be cut in August, which just so happens to be now.
Lombardi Ave‘s Mike Lombardo wrote earlier this month, “The Green Bay Packers’ wide receiver room has become the subject of much consternation in the last few months, as the selection of Matthew Golden in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft could be a sign that one of the holdovers from years gone by may end up getting traded away.”
“Romeo Doubs has stood out as perhaps the most likely trade candidate, thanks to the combination of his past performance and the faint likelihood of the possibility that Green Bay is going to hand him a long-term contract at the end of the season.”
The NFL regular season is a week and a half away, and the trade deadline is over two months in the distance.
Lombardo added, “Doubs’ trade market likely remains healthy across the NFL, as his consistency and penchant for pulling off tough catches will make him desirable for any team in need of some juice on the outside. Brian Gutekunst may find a trade partner in a team that has been burned by former Packers before.”
Doubs Would Be Perfect if the Packers Weren’t Involved
Doubs is 6’2″ and 205 pounds — and 25 years old. He averages about 600 receiving yards per season, which would be virtually perfect in the Vikings’ offense.
He might be the perfect WR option for a Minnesota team that will endure Jordan Addison’s three-game suspension to start the season, Rondale Moore’s season-ending injury, and Jalen Nailor’s unknown health prognosis.
Several other WR names would do the trick for Minnesota, but on a list of ideal candidates, Doubs would probably live around the Top Five.
Intradivisional Trades Taboo
However, NFC North teams, including the Vikings, rarely engage in trade business with the three other foes. It’s taboo. The franchises shy away from the habit.

Why? Well, if one side “wins the trade,” the outcome will be felt at least twice annually, and that just makes business way too personal. For example, Green Bay could ship Doubs to Minnesota, and “then what?” if Doubs lit up the Packers every time the clubs played? Green Bay would look foolish or vice versa.
It’s not impossible for Minnesota and Green Bay to swap assets; it’s just infrequent.
2022 Draft Example
It’s worth noting that one of Adofo-Mensah’s first orders of business when taking the general manager job 3.5 years ago involved a trade with Green Bay. He conducted a draft-night trade that helped the Packers draft Christian Watson, while Minnesota ultimately ended up with cornerback Andrew Booth, a draft bust.

Watson never quite took off either, so the trade didn’t feel too terrible. Still, if Adofo-Mensah were willing to exchange picks with Green Bay in 2022, maybe he wouldn’t be diametrically opposed to inquiring about Doubs.

More on Doubs’ Trade Availability
CBS Sports‘ Bryan DeArdo opined on the Doubs trade topic this week: “The Doubs rumors are based on the fact that the Packers have a crowded receivers room after the team selected Matthew Golden in the first round and Savion Williams in the third round of this year’s draft.”
“The Packers also still have Jayden Reed, a 2023 second-round pick who led Green Bay in receiving yards each of the past two seasons. Additionally, Doubs is entering this final year of his rookie contract. And with a relatively light $3.5 million cap hit for the 2025 season, it’s conceivable to think that there would be several teams interested in acquiring his services via a trade.”
The closer the regular season gets, the more likely Doubs may just stay in Green Bay, especially as his teammates heal from various injuries.

DeArdo continued, “LaFleur, however, pointed out that the Packers are currently dealing with multiple injuries at receiver. Reed is dealing with a foot injury, Christian Watson is still coming back with a season-ending knee injury, and Dontayvion Wicks has missed significant time this summer due to a calf injury.”
“While NFL coaches and general managers are notorious for saying one thing and doing another, LaFleur went out of his way to dismiss the thought of Doubs playing anywhere other than Green Bay this season.”
Considering an NFC North trade tax, Minnesota might have to fire up a deal like a 3rd-Rounder to Green Bay for Doubs and a 5th-Round pick — or something similar.
