The Micah Parsons Trade May Help the Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings traded for Adam Thielen on Wednesday and made headlines by bringing the fan-favorite wide receiver back home. His presence will certainly help a currently thin wide receiver room.

The Packers traded a substantial haul for Micah Parsons, and while he’s talented, that may not be the worst thing for the Minnesota Vikings.

The cornerback position also looks like one of need for Minnesota. They currently have a roster with just four corners on it, and regardless of Brian Flores’ utilization of safeties, that seems to be a problem. Former Dallas Cowboys edge rusher Micah Parsons is not a cornerback. He could have potentially helped that unit by decreasing the time opposing quarterbacks get in the pocket.

The Micah Parsons Trade Doesn’t Have to Be a Viking Killer

Ultimately, the Cowboys decided to send Parsons to Minnesota’s top rival. The Green Bay Packers paid the freight in the form of two first-round picks, Kenny Clark, and $188 million smackeroos. If that seems like a lot, that’s because it is. It may also be enough to have a positive impact in Minnesota.

There’s no denying that Parsons is one of the best defensive players in football. He is now paid more than any non-quarterback in the NFL as well. Do you know who else was pretty good, too? Kenny Clark.

The Green Bay Packers devalued their defensive line to upgrade their pass rush. In recent seasons, it has been Clark who has wreaked havoc on Minnesota. Of course, the interior offensive line has been overhauled, and Clark’s ability to get home may have been stifled. That said, he was a problem.

If there’s a team built to handle Parsons, then it’s Minnesota. Not only are Christian Darrisaw and Brian O’Neill among the best tackles in the sport, but they are tested daily. The Vikings’ front seven is a premier group and can go toe-to-toe against any other unit when clamoring for the top spot. Minnesota’s bookends, facing Andrew Van Ginkel, Jonathan Greenard, Dallas Turner, and others every single day, have them prepared for anything.

Parsons will still be an elite player. He’s still going to get his. I’m not disappointed that Green Bay gave up its future and salary cap space to further hamstring an already mediocre quarterback in Jordan Love, though.

Good luck with that one.
