How Real Is the Carson Wentz Update?

The Minnesota Vikings beat the Cleveland Browns on Sunday in London.
Carson Wentz is dealing with an injury, but the severity of it and its potential impact on his availability remain a mystery for the Minnesota Vikings.
It was the second of two straight international contests for Kevin O’Connell’s squad, and they emerged victorious thanks to a perfect final drive from Carson Wentz.
It wasn’t all rainbows and butterflies for Wentz, though. He was sore early in the week after a loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Dublin, and he went into the locker room early, prompting a final first-half snap from Max Brosmer.
Carson Wentz Is Dealing with an Injured Left Shoulder
On Monday, after the team got back stateside, O’Connell provided an update on his signal caller. Wentz is dealing with a sore shoulder that will require additional time to heal. The Vikings are on a bye, so there shouldn’t be many more updates in the coming days. It’s also possible that his shoulder simply gets better during the time off.

If that’s not the case, though, it raises questions about the quarterback situation. Max Brosmer is the only other quarterback on the roster, with J.J. McCarthy’s return still looking murky. It is possible the young signal caller is ready to return out of the bye, but high ankle sprains are hardly straightforward when it comes to healing.
There have been concerns regarding the Vikings’ shielding McCarthy from returning after a couple of shaky performances to open his career. An injury to Wentz could also provide a more straightforward opening for McCarthy to retake his spot in the starting lineup.

Regardless of what happens in Week 7 against the Philadelphia Eagles, the injury status of both McCarthy and Wentz over the next week and a half will be fascinating to watch. How much both players can improve in consistent practices should be telling in terms of their immediate availability for the next game and going forward.
