I suppose you could take this literally as an Isaiah Rodgers appreciation article, and I wouldn’t fault you for that. However, looking at depth charts across the league, there isn’t a number-two wide receiver as impressive as Minnesota Vikings playmaker Jordan Addison anywhere in the NFL.

Jordan Addison continues to be a superstar for the Minnesota Vikings, and he’s the best WR2 in football while playing with Justin Jefferson.

Of course, Addison is only a WR2 because Justin Jefferson exists. The Vikings employ the best wide receiver in the league, and Jefferson continues to rack up accolades that prove his worth. Minnesota has long been a team of tandems on the outside, though, and now it is no different.

Is Vikings WR Jordan Addison the Top WR2 in All of Football?

Before there were Jefferson and Addison, there were Diggs and Thielen. There was also Moss and Carter. The franchise has had some truly special wide receivers in recent memory, and the only thing that often holds the second guy back is the ceiling for the guy alongside him.

While Addison hauled in just two of four passes on Sunday against the Detroit Lions, he led Minnesota in receiving with 48 yards. Through just five games this season, Addison already has 357 yards and a pair of touchdowns. His 15.5 yards per reception and 71.4 yards per game averages are both career bests.

The goal for any wideout playing alongside Justin Jefferson should be to thrive while coverage is being directed elsewhere. It would be impossible to suggest Addison hasn’t done exactly that. He has proven capable of gaining separation, running strong routes, and catching the ball with sure hands all over the field. It’s why, regardless of who is under center, he has become such a substantial part of Kevin O’Connell’s offense.

Addison is in just his third professional year, and there’s still time before needing to pick up his fifth-year option. Beyond that, though, an extension seems like a logical leap. That will represent a sizable amount of cap space tied up in the wide receiver position, but the Vikings can’t allow him to leave the facility.

That only becomes truer when thinking about his boneheadedness outside of football, and that may help the team stifle his future earnings. That’s not a bad deal, and if Minnesota can help Addison grow off the field, he’ll only further benefit from the development of his on-field play.

End the debate. Minnesota has the top receiving tandem in football. Jordan Addison is absolutely that good.
