The process has already lasted about two months, but the Minnesota Vikings remain theoretical players in the Jalen Ramsey trade sweepstakes.

A popular website mentioned the Vikings in a twist involving trade speculation for a stud cornerback, Jalen Ramsey. And the idea isn’t stupid.

The Miami Dolphins announced before the 2025 NFL Draft that the highest bidder could obtain Ramsey, but no deal has come to fruition with July around the bend.

So, curious folks wonder where Ramsey will land — that’s how it goes for a seven-time Pro Bowler — and Minnesota got an honorable mention this week from Pro Football Network.

Vikings Get PFN Shoutout for Jalen Ramsey Trade

PFN’s Hayden Victoria sized up destinations for Ramsey when a deal eventually occurs, and Minnesota was mentioned.

“As the month of June nears its end, no action has yet taken place. With training camp approaching and Ramsey openly favoring a return to the West Coast, particularly Los Angeles, the Dolphins are expected to accelerate trade talks in the coming weeks,” Victoria opined.

“Teams mentioned in speculation but less likely: Dallas Cowboys, Minnesota Vikings, Kansas City Chiefs, Atlanta Falcons. While these teams have needs at cornerback and could benefit from Ramsey’s presence, current reporting suggests Ramsey is focused on West Coast contenders, specifically the Rams and Chargers.”

Ramsey earns $24 million per season — expensive for a cornerback — and that may stand in the way of Minnesota pulling the trigger on a deal.

Victoria continued, “There is no credible indication that Dallas, Minnesota, Kansas City, or Atlanta are among his preferred or likely destinations at this time. Ramsey is signed through 2028 and is owed $25.1 million in 2025, though any team acquiring him would be responsible for about $21 million this season after Miami’s signing bonus payment.”

“The Dolphins were widely expected to execute a trade after June 1 to minimize their cap hit, with several teams reportedly inquiring about the star cornerback.”

Generally speaking, the time is now for a Ramsey swap, even if he doesn’t end up in Minnesota.

A Slam Dunk Trade to Cap Off Tremendous Offseason

Fans have debated for months whether the purple and gold cornerback room has enough juice for 2025, employing Byron Murphy Jr., Isaiah Rodgers, Mekhi Blackmon, Jeff Okudah, Dwight McGlothern, and Ambry Thomas as men who will likely seize roster spots.

Adding Ramsey in a swap with Los Angeles would utterly slap an exclamation point on Minnesota’s offseason, which has already featured the additions of Will Fries, Ryan Kelly, Javon Hargrave, and Jonathan Allen, among others.

Inserting Ramsey into Brian Flores’ defense would scream Super Bowl contention.

Why Are the Vikings in Play for Jalen Ramsey at All?

Minnesota might need a final starting cornerback, Ramsey knows Kevin O’Connell, and the purple team may be all in for Super Bowl contendership.

The Kevin O’Connell Link

Why is Ramsey in play for Minnesota in the first place? The connection is quite simple — and palpable. Head coach Kevin O’Connell worked with Ramsey in Los Angeles when the Rams took down the Cincinnati Bengals for a Super Bowl triumph in 2021.

The Ramsey fodder isn’t half-cocked, rosy-eyed, fan-driven nonsense. Minnesota may have a cornerback need, and Ramsey is more than familiar with Minnesota’s skipper.

Vikings Will Remain a Theory Until the Trade Goes Through

Like most free-agent recommendations and trade theories, this talker won’t die until Ramsey finds a new team. It’s too damn irresistible to daydream about Ramsey in purple and gold.

Wiggling money around to accommodate Ramsey is probably a dealbreaker, but hope will remain until the future Hall of Famer has a new NFL home.

The Frontrunner for the Jalen Ramsey Trade? Probably the Rams.

The Rams are oft-mentioned in the Ramsey trade sweepstakes, probably because he won a Super Bowl with the team when O’Connell coached there in 2021.

Victoria noted on the Rams’ case for Ramsey, “A reunion is in play, with coach Sean McVay acknowledging the Rams ‘haven’t closed the door’ on bringing Ramsey back. The Rams are Super Bowl contenders and need help at cornerback.”

“Ramsey won a title in L.A. and remains a fan favorite. The Rams are widely seen as a top fit for Ramsey if the Dolphins trade him. Ramsey spent four seasons in Los Angeles, earning multiple Pro Bowl nods and helping the Rams win a Super Bowl.”

Otherwise, the Rams will roll with Darious Williams, Ahkello Witherspoon, and Quentin Lake at cornerback.

“The franchise is familiar with his skill set and leadership, and their secondary struggled last season, ranking 26th in passing yards allowed. Bringing Ramsey back would immediately upgrade a thin cornerback group. However, the major obstacle is his contract – over $20 million guaranteed for 2025 – which the Rams must navigate to make a deal possible,” Victoria added.

Ramsey will turn 31 a week before Halloween.
