The Vikings Are Somehow Hunting a Rare Treble in a Down Year

The NFC North once again looks like a tough division, with the Minnesota Vikings currently in the basement with just four wins in 10 games. This week, the Vikings head on the road and will cross the border into Wisconsin to take on the Green Bay Packers in what will be the team’s third and final NFC North road game of 2025.
The Minnesota Vikings are somehow hunting a rare divisional treble in a down year, setting up a surprising Week 12 storyline against Green Bay.
It should be a daunting task for a team that has just lost two home games in humbling fashion. However, division games on the road have been where Minnesota has actually found success this season. Two of the team’s four wins, both achieved with JJ McCarthy as the team’s quarterback, came on the road inside the division. In Week 1 against Chicago and then in Week 9 against Detroit.

Week 12 gives Minnesota the opportunity of an unlikely treble in an otherwise disappointing season. If Kevin O’Connell’s team can produce the upset win – the home side is viewed as heavy favorites – they will have completed the hat-trick of divisional road wins. It would be a strange stat in what is proving to be a difficult season.
What Are the Vikings’ Prospects of Winning?
Green Bay hasn’t been having the best of times itself in recent weeks. After reaching the top of the division, the Packers followed up losses to the Carolina Panthers and Philadelphia Eagles by just scraping past a New York Giants team that had just fired their head coach and were without their rookie QB and RB, who had been garnering excitement through injury.

The Packers’ offense has been struggling, scoring just 13 and 9 points in losses to the Panthers and Eagles, respectively. Matt LaFleur’s offense is built around the run game, and their lead running back, Josh Jacobs, was not out of last week’s game with a knee contusion.
It’s up in the air whether he will be ready to play this week. His absence would certainly help the Vikings’ cause. Of course, Minnesota will still need to put together a more consistent offense if they are to win.
Vikings vs Packers History
The treble of wins in the division is not the only hat trick Minnesota will achieve with a win on Sunday. Victory at Lambeau Field will make it three wins in a row against Green Bay and three wins in a row at the Packers’ home Stadium. The team from Wisconsin might hold the overall advantage in this record with a 66-60-3 record, but it is the Vikings who have had the better of the most recent encounter, winning six of the last nine meetings.

The mood in the Vikings orbit has been low this week, but there is nothing better to remedy that than a win over the rivals from across the border. It’s a big task for O’Connell and his team, but this is a team that has won in Detroit and Chicago, so they shouldn’t see a win in Green Bay as impossible.
