Vikings Ring of Honor Could Gain New Member

Former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Tommy Kramer played in purple and gold for 13 seasons, and now there’s recent momentum to get Kramer into the club’s Ring of Honor at U.S. Bank Stadium.
Vikings Ring of Honor Could Gain New Member
An online petition is circulating to get Kramer into the Ring of Honor, and if it passes, the Vikings’ ownership will decide on the finality of the petition process.

Kramer played in 129 Vikings games from 1977 to 1989, starting 110. He threw for 24,777 passing yards, 159 touchdowns, and 158 interceptions. In 1986, his best season, he earned a Pro Bowl nod. He essentially defined the 1980s Vikings, and some might be confused about why Kramer isn’t in the Ring of Honor already.
The online petition outlined a five-point case for Kramer in the ROH:
- Franchise Leader: Kramer ranks among the top Vikings quarterbacks in career passing yards, touchdowns, and completions.
- Clutch Performer: His ability to shine under pressure earned him the nickname “Two-Minute Tommy,” with countless thrilling comebacks etched into Vikings lore.
- Record-Setting Games: From his 452-yard passing performance against Washington to the unforgettable Hail Mary touchdown to Ahmad Rashad in 1980, Kramer delivered some of the most iconic moments in team history.
- Team Leader: Beyond the stats, Tommy’s leadership and toughness embodied what it means to be a Viking.
The process leader, Ben Theis, also wrote: “The Vikings Ring of Honor celebrates players who have left an indelible mark on the franchise, and Tommy Kramer is a shining example of that legacy. His contributions have inspired generations of fans and players alike. By inducting him into the Ring of Honor, we acknowledge his immense impact on the Vikings organization and cement his rightful place in team history.”

Kramer is an active member of Vikings-themed social media and is overall a fantastic human.
The ex-Viking even weighed in on the Vikings’ impending choice in 2024, right before Sam Darnold collapsed in the season’s final two games.

“I’ve been asked my thoughts on the QB situation. Darnold is doing an amazing job, I’m very happy for him. The NFL can be a short career, I hope he gets a lot of $ in his next contract. I would like to see the Vikings save the $, roll with JJ and do what they did this year in free agency and build a strong line on both sides of the ball. McCarthy is a winner and a leader, match that with Coach O’Connell and the receiver core we have, the Vikings have a bright future. Merry Christmas everyone, enjoy the time with your family and friends,” Kramer tweeted in late December.
If the petition succeeds, Kramer will join these 27 players in the Vikings’ ROH:
- Jared Allen
- Matt Blair
- Bill Brown
- Joey Browner
- Jerry Burns
- Cris Carter
- Chris Doleman
- Dennis Green
- Carl Eller
- Jim Finks
- Chuck Foreman
- Bud Grant
- Steve Jordan
- Paul Krause
- Randall McDaniel
- Randy Moss
- Alan Page
- John Randle
- Korey Stringer
- Scott Studwell
- Ahmad Rashad
- Fran Tarkenton

Kramer will turn 70 next month.
