Vikings Duo Hops on Pedestal

There is always an argument or debate as to who is the best wide receiver in the NFL. It often centers around Vikings WR Justin Jefferson and Bengals WR Ja’Marr Chase. The two former LSU standouts have often left the commentary to talking heads as opposed to going after one another. Given the inconsistency at quarterback for the Vikings, it has always seemed clear that Jefferson had a leg up.
The Minnesota Vikings’ wide receiver duo proved its status as the best in the league with a noteworthy performance on Sunday.
On Sunday, it wasn’t just Jefferson who put up numbers, but the entire Minnesota Vikings wide receiver room that proved they have the best tandem in the NFL.

Whether the Vikings can or intend to pay Jordan Addison has been a topic of debate for some time. He has made some different missteps that have caused him to miss time, and he was even suspended for the first quarter of Sunday’s game against the Browns. It sounds as though Minnesota intends to extend its second option, and the Cleveland game was more evidence as to why.

If Justin Jefferson weren’t on the Minnesota Vikings, Jordan Addison would be a legitimate number one wide receiver and contend with Chase as among the best in the league. He plays second fiddle to the guy above him, though, and that never stops him from producing on his own.
The reality is that the more Minnesota can get from Addison, the greater opportunities Jefferson will continue to see. Forcing a defense away from covering the Vikings’ top option with additional eyes is a must, and it’s Addison who accomplishes that.

Despite the Vikings being down three starting offensive linemen, Carson Wentz had a day. Jefferson hauled in seven passes for a whopping 123 yards, while Addison caught five passes for 41 yards and the game-winning touchdown. Addison had multiple key receptions, and he was targeted twice on the final drive of the game.
When Minnesota was without the services of its second-in-line during the first three weeks, it knew something had to be done. They traded for Adam Thielen to bring in another veteran option. It’s still a fun story, but the writing has been on the wall since Addison returned to the lineup.

The Vikings will need their offense, specifically the passing game, to click moving forward. If the line gets healthy, there’s a good chance it won’t matter who is under center because they get to throw to the best tandem in the league.
