Nobody Saw This Coming from Vikings QB Max Brosmer

On Thursday night, without Max Brosmer, the Minnesota Gophers took the field for the first time in 2025. They were hosting a lackluster opponent in Buffalo, but a big debut was incoming. Redshirt freshman Drake Lindsey was set to make the first start of his career. P.J. Fleck’s squad has high aspirations after an 8-win season last year.
Max Brosmer continues to make an impact that the Vikings couldn’t have expected, and his character was on display Thursday for the Gophers.
Lindsey wasn’t on his own, though. As recruits, families, and dignitaries flocked to the field pregame, it was hard not to notice the newest Minnesota Vikings quarterback. Brosmer was present, and in a big way. Despite arguably leading the most successful quarterback season in school history last year, he was present wearing a jersey. A Drake Lindsey jersey.

Brosmer went undrafted after his impressive lone season with the Gophers. The Vikings quickly scooped him up. Then he stuck. Ultimately, he made the 53-man roster and cemented himself as a new part of the Vikings’ future.
Max Brosmer Arrives on the Vikings Roster with a Mike Breen Bang
That’s not by accident. Neither is he showing up for Drake Lindsey on Thursday night. Head coach P.J. Fleck touched on that reality postgame.
This is who Max Brosmer is. It’s who Max Brosmer has always been. It’s who Max Brosmer will continue to be. It’s not a mistake that Brosmer wound up making the Vikings. That groundwork has been laid for months now. It was solidified at his pro day with the way he carried himself.

Realistically, the hope would be that the Minnesota Vikings never need to play Brosmer in a regular season game. He is third on the depth chart behind both J.J. McCarthy and Carson Wentz. You don’t want to see either of those players get injured or have to give up their roster spot. If Brosmer does need to step in, though, you can bet he’ll be ready and capable.
For now, the former Gophers quarterback is a depth chart backup for the Vikings. He’ll continue to grow, learn, and develop. Maybe he assumes a QB2 role in the future, and perhaps someone lets him shine as their starter.

No matter what happens, though, you can be sure that Brosmer will remain the same. He’ll work hard. He’ll care about those around him. He’ll put forward the best of what you could possibly expect from him.
On Thursday night, he returned to a stadium that he had dominated in support of a good friend he had made. If the legend continues to grow, it should come as no surprise.
