Two rather popular men have been connected to the Minnesota Vikings’ rumor mill as of late: Aaron Rodgers and Matthew Stafford.

There’s a decent chance that those future Hall of Famers need new teams this offseason, and various sectors of NFL media have mentioned the Vikings as a landing spot. Of course, Minnesota has quarterback J.J. McCarthy all lined up for QB1 duty in 2025, especially if 2024 QB1 Sam Darnold departs via free agency or trade, which seems likely as of late February.

But according to Pro Football Talk‘s Mike Florio, Rodgers and Stafford will not factor into Minnesota’s offseason plan, instead landing in Los Angeles with the Rams and New York with the Giants, respectively.

“Based on recent reports and public comments and other things churning in the broader NFL rumor mill, one experienced G.M. has a prediction as to how the Matthew Stafford and Aaron Rodgers companion mysteries will be resolved. Step one, Stafford gets traded to the Giants. Step two, Rodgers signs with the Rams,” Florio theorized over the weekend.

Stafford trade rumors bubbled to the surface recently after Cooper Kupp explained via social media that he wouldn’t return with the Rams. Shortly thereafter, Stafford’s wife, Kelly, said on a podcast that her husband wouldn’t be mad about a trade.

For Rodgers, the New York Jets’ new brass told him they’d veer in a different direction this offseason, not retaining the 41-year-old in 2025. Rodgers is likely to be released and can actually talk to any team right now about a free-agent relationship.

Florio continued, “Again, it’s just a prediction. But it’s not from someone in the media or a fan. It’s from someone who knows a thing or two about how the NFL sausage gets made, based on having plenty of time turning the handle.”

“If it happens, two quarterbacks who faced off twice per year with NFC North teams will be heading to their third franchises. And while the Rams and Giants won’t square off in the 2025 regular season, a Stafford trade to the Giants would send him back to Detroit. Again.”

Per big-game notoriety, Stafford to New York and Rodgers to Los Angeles would rock the NFL. Thereafter, folks would have to wait and see how each addition played out in the regular season.

Stafford turned 37 earlier this month, and Rodgers will be 42 in December.
