Former Vikings RB Auditions for Seahawks Roster

Minnesota Vikings fans will be ultra-familiar with the name Myles Gaskin, and with any luck, that veteran running back will join the Seattle Seahawks‘ depth chart before too long.
The Seattle Seahawks are apparently interested in extra running back depth and took a peek at a former Vikings RB this week.
Gaskin twisted around in Minnesota’s roster orbit for a couple of seasons in 2023 and 2024. Now, he might parley a recent tryout into a contract on a team quarterbacked by Sam Darnold, who led Minnesota in 2024.
Ex-Vikings Tailback Myles Gaskin Could Try on SEA for Size
Gaskin is no stranger to new teams.

Seahawks Try out Myles Gaskin
Gaskin’s current unemployment may come to an end. NFL writer Nate Bouda wrote Monday, “The Seattle Seahawks hosted three free agent running backs for workouts on Monday including Brandon Bolden, Myles Gaskin, and Khalil Herbert.”
Seattle possesses a pretty full running back room, especially with Kenneth Walker and Zach Charbonnet at the top of the ticket, but with a recent injury to Charbonnet that held him out of Week 2, Gaskin is evidently an option for depth.
If signed, Gaskin could join the Seahawks by the end of the week.
The Possible Next Stop for the Journeyman RB
Gaskin is well-travelled. He experienced a miniature breakout season with the Miami Dolphins in 2020, but it proved to be a one-hit wonder, relatively speaking. He recorded 972 yards from scrimmage with Brian Flores’ team that season, along with 5 touchdowns. The following year, he totaled 846 yards from scrimmage and 7 touchdowns.
Then, everything died for Gaskin.
Since the start of 2022, the total yards from scrimmage total has dwindled to just 64 — altogether in three seasons, going on four if he signs with the Seahawks.
Here’s Gaskins’ NFL resume to date:
- Miami Dolphins (2019–2022)
- Minnesota Vikings (2023)
- Los Angeles Rams (2023)
- Minnesota Vikings (2023–2024)
- Jacksonville Jaguars (2024)
- Baltimore Ravens (2025)
Seattle would make it six teams for Gaskin if he lucks into a practice squad deal.
The Seahawks’ RB Room
Entering Week 4 and assuming Gaskin is not signed quite yet, this is the Seahawks running back room:
- Kenneth Walker
- Zach Charbonnet
- George Holani
- Jacardia Wright (Practice Squad)
- Kenny McIntosh (Injured Reserve)
- Wesley Steiner (FB, Injured Reserve)
Gaskin would presumably join Wright on the practice squad and be the next man up if an injury sidelines Walker, Charbonnet, and Holani.

It’s also worth noting that Seattle could sign the aforementioned Herbert, who has a more recently productive resume than Gaskin. Some Vikings fans even wanted Minnesota to sign Herbert before the club onboarded Cam Akers last week.
Gaskin’s Time in Minnesota
Gaskin acted as Minnesota’s kick returner from time to time from 2023 to 2024, though he saw action in just five Vikings games since the start of 2023. Minnesota used Gaskin on seven offensive snaps and 26 special teams plays when it was all said and done. He habitually filled an emergency RB practice squad role.
In 16 months, the Vikings mind-bogglingly promoted, demoted, re-signed, and released Gaskin approximately 25 times, even turning into a social media joke or meme.
More on Seattle’s Rushing Offense
Seahawks skipper Mike Macdonald said about his rushing offense after Week 3: “It’s not good enough. It’s not even close to being good enough. It’s not what we saw throughout camp; it’s not what we saw in the preseason. Got to give the other teams credit, too; they’re designing some good things and playing hard and tackling well. But we’ve got to be better. We need to be better.”
“We’re coming out of the win, and it’s great that we won in that fashion. But when you watch it, no one on our football team is going to be satisfied, really in all three phases, of the things we fell short on, and we understand where we need to improve, and the run game is right there in the front with our offense.”

SI.com‘s Connor Benintendi on the rushing attack: “After a solid 100-yard rushing outing by Kenneth Walker III in Week 2, the Seahawks’ run game slowed substantially against the Saints. Walker turned 16 carries into just 38 yards and two touchdowns. George Holani picked up 27 yards on 10 carries. As a team, Seattle totaled just 2.6 yards per carry on the day, well below their season average of 3.3, which is already a concerning figure at this point in the season.”
“A 31-point win is always going to be celebrated, but the Seahawks aren’t always going to get three huge special teams plays that result in a 21-point swing. The offense will need to establish a consistent rushing attack to support the passing game’s consistency.”
Seattle is favored by a point and a half on Thursday Night Football to take down the Arizona Cardinals on the road.
Gaskin will turn 29 in February.
