In two weeks on the nose, the Minnesota Vikings will begin choosing rookie prospects as the 2025 NFL Draft kicks off from Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Vikings Meet with Hometown Rookie QB

Minnesota is expected to target a defensive tackle, offensive guard, cornerback, or safety in Round 1 with its 24th overall pick, and general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah will have three selections after the 1st Round.

And with any luck, he could spend a late-rounder on Minnesota Golden Gophers passer Max Brosmer.

Max Brosmer Meets with Vikings

A to Z Sports Tyler Forness tweeted Wednesday, “Sources tell Destin Adams and I the Vikings hosted Max Brosmer on a top 30 visit. Smart move bringing in Brosmer, who had a lot of intriguing tools Kevin O’Connell could develop. That likely explains him wearing Vikings gear at spring practice.”

Minnesota has met with numerous players this week from all positions, and quarterback is no different.

Brosmer’s Scouting Report

By a rookie quarterback’s standard, Brosmer is “old.” He turned 24 last month and is 6’2″ and 220 pounds. Brosmer was born in Davenport, Iowa, but moved to Georgia in middle school and eventually played at Centennial High School in Roswell.

As a Gopher in 2024, he delivered a 23-touchdown to 6-interception split, including rushing scores.

The Draft Network‘s Damian Parson describes Brosmer’s scouting report: “Brosmer showcases the ability to create with his legs if given an escape route out of the backfield. He was effective on QB zone reads when dialed up. Brosmer comfortably makes throws on the move, like, bootlegs, sprint outs, and launch point movement throws. Brosmer displays a high football IQ.”

“He reads and identifies pre-snap and post-snap coverages well. He does a nice job reading the safeties pre-snap to determine the coverage outcomes to expect post-snap. He has a good feel for the game and anticipates throws before the receiver finishes their break. Brosmer is a pocket navigator. He is efficient at climbing the pocket vs edge pressure and finding throwing lanes.”

Brosmer checks in around No. 12 in most draft quarterback pecking orders this draft cycle.

Parson added, “Brosmer projects as a highly efficient RPO/West Coast quarterback. His quick release, processing, and accuracy from the pocket make him an ideal fit for those offensive concepts. Brosmer has a chance to move into day two as a prospect with a strong season versus a defensively-loaded Big Ten conference.”

Where in the Draft for Brosmer?

Per the Consensus Big Board, Brosmer ranks 229th as of April 10th — 7th-Round stock. He could even end up as “Mr. Irrelevant,” the term used for the last prospect taken in the draft.

He shares Big Board space with fellow Big Ten quarterback Kurtis Rourke of Indiana (No. 222) and Missouri’s Brady Cook (No. 257).

The 33rd Team‘s James Foster tweeted last month, “Max Brosmer is probably my favorite Day 3 QB. Absolute machine on intermediate throws and is by far the best anticipatory passer that I’ve watched. I’d draft him just to specialize as my 3rd & medium QB.”

If the Vikings want Brosmer, they can likely grab him in Round 7, although they don’t have a pick in that round at the moment. Brosmer could also fall off the draftboard altogether, where general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah could scoop him from undrafted free agency.

Realism of Drafting a QB

Most fans don’t have quarterbacks anywhere near their mock drafts, chiefly because J.J. McCarthy is 22 and the quarterback of the future. What’s more, if Minnesota adds any more passers, folks expect a seasoned veteran like Joe Flacco or Carson Wentz after the draft.

However, the Vikings employ a “quarterback whisperer” head coach in Kevin O’Connell, so drafting a rookie signal-caller can never be wholly ruled out.

Perhaps Diligence?

In all likelihood, Minnesota is doing its due diligence by meeting with the hometown quarterback. Hell, it even met with Miami’s Cam Ward earlier in the draft cycle, and he won’t join the purple team. Ward is expected to be the first overall pick to the Tennessee Titans in 14 days.

O’Connell often meets with quarterbacks leading up to a draft, a tactic he uses as a long-term scouting trait.
